Mr. Horn continued

I've been following the Joe Horn shooting incident with interest. Personally, I hope he can walk away from this but, as predicted, the case has taken on it's own momentum. Quannell X tried to make it a race issue which almost led to a black/white confrontation, Mr. Horn has received hate mail, calls, etc. The district attorney received a call that threatened Mr. Horn's life and said he would be killed in or out of prison. The evidence is going to the district attorney to determine whether Mr. Horn will be tried or not. Mr. Horn's life has been changed, forever, because of this incident. I'm not judging the man one way or the other as I was not there. As a former law enforcement officer I brought up certain aspects regarding the use of deadly force that many refuted or took issue with. I urge all of you to review the threads and follow how this case is unwinding. Ask yourself if you would be prepared to handle the death threats, phone calls, negative publicity, media exposure, threats to your family, etc. because you took a person's life over another's property. Does anyone seriously think Mr. Horn would take the same course of action, knowing what he knows now? I seriously doubt it. As previously stated, there are certain cases where the use of deadly force is justified and rarely questioned; defense of property is not one of them. Many people supported Mr. Horn's actions, saying he can be their neighbor anytime, etc. A legal defense fund has been set up by one of his neighbors; see link below. Get your skin in the game, back up your words, and contribute some money to this legal defense fund. It's time to show Quannell X and others that we can get support for a cause or person we believe in, as well.

There's already a fund set up: Joe Horn for my neighbor.

Thank you for the link as I'll be contributing. I would urge everyone to contribute what they can to help this man as he's going to need it. As stated, I'm not judging what he did as right or wrong but I do support him.

I just sent a supportive e-mail to Mr. Horn using the above link; I also donated to the legal defense fund. This is a great way for all who supported him on this website to support him emotionally and financially. If you really feel as strong as some of you intimated, help the guy out.

Is anyone sure that the link posted is legitimate? I will gladly donate, but I want to be sure its not going to some scam?

Gman,
Yes the 'Joe Horn For My Neighbor' site is legitimate. I called the number listed which is the law office of Mr. Horn's attorney. The receptionist verified that Attorney Lambright is representing Mr. Horn and gave me his Texas Bar number. I Googled the Texas Bar Assn. and did a search. The attorney's name as listed in the Texas Bar is Charles T. Lambright. His bar number is 11848500 and is licensed to practice in the state of Texas. He has made several statements in defense of Mr. Horn.

I hate to buck the tide, but I've thoroughly researched this situation and I find myself having my some doubts.
I'm sure 2 scum ball's lives were worth more than what ever it is they were trying to steal. He could could have held them at bay awaiting the cops. If they tried to flee, let them.
He wasn't protecting his life or that of his family. Not even his own personal property. I understand he was trying to be a good neighbor, but it's my guess the neighbor would gladly have replaced the items that were stolen rather than see his neighbor get into a jackpot. I guess they have home owner's insurance.
I feel for the man, but think he showed very poor judgment, with the best of intents.
If these 2 thugs were trying to get into his house and threatened bodily harm it would be a whole different story.
I just don't know about this one.

You know, I read the entire 911 transcript, then re-read it again. It just didn't sit right with me because near the begining he mentions the law passed on Sept 1st, and through out the transcript he alludes to what he might do. It's almost like he wants to shoot somebody. The entire transcript is kind of scary. I'm not sure I'd want to live in that neighborhood with Mr. Horn. What if it were two twelve year olds? I just find the entire 911 transcript rather disturbing.

Right or wrong is for the jury to decide. But for all he knew one of his neighbors might have been dead or dying.
As for the perps, those are the chances you take when you become a parasite of society.

Bikers shut out Black Panthers at Joe Horn shooting press conference.

Twud has it right. The 911 transcript leads to the belief he wanted to kill those creeps. The dispatcher warned him numerous times to stay inside. This was an intentional act, and his homeowners carrier will not defend him or pay a claim. I really have no sympathy with Mr. Horn. Even in Texas, vigilante actions cannot be tolerated. No matter the actions of the bad guys nor Horn's perception of what they intended to do, he cannot take the law into his own hands. I doubt the new law in that state will help him, since they had not yet committed a felony.

I don't think it was right that Mr.Horn went out with the intent to kill, he should have said "Stop you under arrest" not "stop or your dead".
But because of the New Black Panthers, Quannell X, and one of the thief's girl friends saying what a good guy this thief was, this just shows how stupid this woman is to get on national TV and say how great a illegal alien thief is.

AND YES I SENT MONEY TO MR.HORN DEFIENCE. and if I lived closer I'd protest the protesters.

So now I'm supposed to believe that the right thing to do is to cower in my home while criminals are committing unlawful acts right outside my window?

The ghost of Kitty Genovese is looking on with a wry smile

Im hearing several different anecdotes about this shooting. One version has it that Mr Horn went outside and was on his own property when he confronted the burglars. After he told them to stop they advanced towards him in a menacing manner, and that's when he shot them. If that's the case he was fully within his rights as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, and BTW, if you're on the phone with a 911 operator while a crime like this is going on and you feel that you're getting no response just mention that you "think" that you've just heard screams and shots being fired. ;)

As far as I'm concerned, Joe Horn should be given the benefit of the doubt and supported by those of us who believe in our Second Ammendment rights. I can't judge the man one way or the other because I wasn't in his shoes and don't know what was going through his mind. Look beyond your own personal opinion to the larger picture; by lending our support we are united. By bickering back and forth about whether his acts were justified or not, we're divided. Trust me when I say that politicians, district attorneys, and the news media are following this case closely. A closing of our ranks and support will show that we are tired of illegals, crime, and a broken criminal justice system.

Banding together to support this man's 2nd ammendment rights is the same as endorsing murder. If that's the case then I'm going to cancel my NRA membership. This throws a very bad light on the use of lethal force to defend one's self.
This guy was out to shoot someone and this was his chance.
I hate to say it but he was wrong.

Remvs308,
Next week they would have been jail. I simply can't justify what he did. Neither he nor his family was being threatened, even so would you kill another human over a VCR and some silverware. If the punishment should fit the crime then they got way more than they deserved.
Except for what's in my gun safe, there isn't any thing in this house that's equal in value to a human life. They were judged and and sentenced without a trial. Thou shalt not kill, over a TV.
In all good conscience I just can't support the man.

Man, I'm starting to sound like a lefty.
