Moving To Oak Ridge Tennessee

On August 1st of this year I will be IN Oak Ridge. I know of the Oak Ridge gun club, I also know of Dead Zero not too far away. It will take me a week or so to get set up etc... BUT I would like to shoot an F-Class match at the Oak Ridge Club. I also know you have to have a sponsor to join (I think that is an excellent idea) and I am sure I will meet other shooters there, one of which may sponsor me so I can join the club.
QUESTION: Is there anyone here who shoots at Oak Ridge and can give me some of the "ins and out" of the range and it's F-Class schedule? I would certainly appreciate it. Thank You!!

Try typing ORSA high power events. Looks like nothing for August. I have Larry's number if you PM me. Dead Zero is weekend of 28th for August. At Oak Ridge pull targets and no covered line. Usually set up canopies at firing line. Good bunch of guys.

Next match at ORSA is scheduled for 10 -12 Sep 21, TN State LR Championship. There will be a club match on 9 - 10 Oct, which will wrap things up for the year. Open to sling and F-Class. Always a laid back, informal (yet safe) match, firing commences at 1000 hours daily, and matches are generally shot under canopies provided by the competitors!

Larry Sparks, (865) 643-0672, is match director.

Was a bit saddened when I heard you were leaving us , Ben . I can personally say that your knowledge and advice on many subjects of F class has helped me become a better shooter , Loader , and Competitor . I think I can speak for the whole D.S.S. crew when I say you will be missed at Ben Avery , and Rio Salado shoots and Matches . And sign-up for SWN is in August . Hope to see you in Feb , when you join all the other Snowbirds .

I will be shooting at the Oak Ridge club and Dead Zero>>>>and any other place within a reasonable drive.. I am certain I will run into you somewhere along one of those lines!
Look forward to meeting you Benjamin. I make it to Tennessee several times a year. Two times to Oak Ridge so far this year and plan on Dead Zero for September match. Still haven't convinced my wife to make the move yet.

It will be a great experience meeting new people and shooting with the GREATEST group of people anywhere>>>SHOOTERS! I have found the "shooting community" to contain the best people this country has to offer!

Here you go...ORSA Highpower Events

Also, you do not have to be a member to shoot the ORSA matches, but I am sure you'll want to join since you'll be living right there.

We are also beginning to start up matches again at the Air Force Base in Tullahoma, TN (AEDC), but there is not much to communicate yet because there are still several things to be sorted out with the Guard, etc. MidSouth Marksmen (next year should be better).

+2 on sad to see you go, however on a personal positive. I got to shoot my first Match
with you scoring @ Rio not that long ago. I picked up so much good info that day about F-Class
and what its all about...., From scoring to pulling targets. Thanks my friend and go enjoy the new ranges
and new challenges out there in TN..
I know Ill see you at Avery again in the future....and on AS forum as well.

I fully intend to become a member a.s.a.p. I will shoot as many matches as possible. Thank You for the info.. It is much appreciated..

I officially hate you.

At one point I used to live litterally across the street from ORSA, then I moved 25 minutes away... then I moved to NH.

Great place to shoot, great goup of guys there. You can, at least you could, become a provisional member for 12 months w/o a sponsor. If you're shooting matches you'd pick up a sponsor quickly.

You won't be "losing" any of the friends you made in AZ, Ben, you'll just be gaining a whole new set!
Best of luck with the move.
You are most correct. I am hoping that some of the guys will come out and stay with me so they can shoot some of the BIG matches! AND gaining new friends is always a great chapter to add in your "book of living"!

You can always come back for a visit and shoot! You would be welcome to stay at my house!
