Mounting a Z5 on a Sako L579?

My new 6BR varmint gun is about ready to go but I need to figure out how best to mount this (1" tube/52mm obj) scope on it. I don't want a separate rail if I can avoid it. The barrel is about medium weight so this should help clearance. I'm hoping to avoid going any higher than necessary so medium height rings would be desirable.

Any help appreciated.

I just finished a re-barreling on a L579. Client said he found some adapters made by weaver that allows scope bases or a rail to be installed. Then again, he could be just blowing smoke up ....... Might try a google on this if no one has a real answer. (my answer seems a little weak)

I've already spent quite a bit of time asking Mr Google and am left far from certain as to where to go. Was hoping the intelligentsia here might be able to help.

Riesel- those look good but the vertically-split rings don't spin my wheels unfortunately. Had some Talleys on another rifle.

The Near ones are very nice but US$450 for the set is getting up there.. If it were a high grade original Sako, I'd definitely stump up for it but this is more a casual varminter. Thanks for the info anyway guys.

Has anyone used the Leupold bases?? Also, do the latest Optilock rings hit these older actions??

Copy That. You may be limited on what is available. There seems to be a pretty good assortment of scope rings on Ebay.

Give the Coentrol folks a call. They have a nice looking ring system and I'm sure they offer Sako bases.

Little ot here but I was wondering if your 579 feeds the 6br okay? I have a couple and haven't considered the 6br. Both were factory 243's. Just curious.

I wasn't talking about near rings. I got a picatinny rail that he made out of SS that the under side is cut to mate up with the dovetails in the Sako action, then used a set of high quality steel picatinny rings. It sits on a TRGs and has worked perfectly for many years.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I ended up discovering the current std Optlocks fit perfectly with the 52mm obj clearing the barrel by maybe 4mm. Bonus is no possible damage to the (expensive) tube with the liners
