Mountain varminter 6mmbr.

I have it in mind to get a lightweight 6.5 pound, 6mmbr built on a Rem 700 action. I need ideas on a quality, affordable, sporter contour barrel. I will be shooting 70-105 grain bullets, so what twist rate do you recomend? Should I buy an ADL instead of an SPS for the action. The trigger will be replaced and a blind magazine does not bother me since it may end up being a single shot anyways..thought I could save some weight there. I will be using a Bell and Carlson ultralight stock.

Id buy either style rem for a donor action. Id wanna built it with an 8 twist medium varmint barrel contour maybe around 2o to 22 inches long depend on how far you plan on shooting shorter barrel you give up some velocity but also lighten the rig up hope this helped you out

This is one of my favorite coyote guns, AKA "White Lightning"......

S/S 700, BDL repeater, 22" Rock Creek 8 twist in a Rem mag sporter contour, McMillan standard fill Classic stock, 3.5-10x40 CDS Leupold in Talley Lightweights. Weighs in at one ounce under 8 pounds. Chambered in 6 Dasher.

This stock weighs 30 ounces, so you'd have to go to an Edge fill to save some weight, around 6-8 ounces.
I don't know what a B&C weighs to compare.

Maximum barrel contour would be a Rock Creek, Remington sporter dupe, their #3, with a inch shank, no longer than 22", might save another half a pound or so over mine.

Put on a lightweight aluminum bolt shroud and ADL trigger guard will lighten the load as well.
It's a varmint gun, so I'd make it a repeater.

The last place to lose some weight would be the scope, but with this one at 13 ounces, I prefer the versatility of the full size 3.5-10x40, over a compact style, for the performance, over trying to save a couple of ozs. Plus, you can't save any weight over the Talleys, at 2 1/4 ounces, unless you wanna run open sights.....

I want total weight of scoped rifle to be right at 7 pounds.

Which is why I explained the weights of mine and where to save some ounces.......

Here's another, same build specs in 260, with a #3 Rock, weighs 7 pounds, 4 ounces.

Or copy this one, same build specs again in 7-08 with a fluted #3 Rock, and an Edge Classic.

Weighs 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

They're all Classics. Standard fills run 30-32 ounces, Edges knock off a half pound plus.

I built a similar rifle in 6mmBR. I used a Stiller Predator action, Jewell trigger, Krieger LV barrel and a McMillan Edge Ultralight stock. The stock only weighs 24 ounces. I had it built in an ADL configuration to keep it as light as possible.

What about the titanium action 700 remington with a light weight factory stock and rebarrel in 6 br? Or the browning micro medallion. Both are very light weight walking rifle's.

Because it'll cost you $1000-$1200 to buy one for the donor, plus the cost of the re-barrel, and it's still gotta B&C stock.

You can build one off a 700 and come within 6-8 ounces of Ti.

It was just a suggestion.I have seen them locally(titanium) for 700.00.I should have bought them both. How about a model 7 youth model cheapy and strip it for the action.People have done that also.

You could have put them on "the fire" & made $400-500 each over night. Last few that have come up there only lasted minutes, for stupid prices...
