Mosin stock repair

Ahoy !
I got my very first rifle not that long ago and I love it to death ! It's a Mosin Nagant (1943 ) with markings from Romania ( the only markings I could identify online, but there are others ).
It has developed a hang nail type of crack near the bolt. A piece of wood has slivered off is sitting as described. It's small and thin.
I was wondering how I can either reattach it or remove it safely. I will get some pictures of the offending area if needed.
I'm still getting used to the names of all the parts of a rifle, so I might not be correct about its placement. I do know that it's close to where the bolt sits.
Any help would be appreciated. I love this gun :)

I really appreciate your enthusiasm but beware. These guys will have you shooting long range or benchrest with that Mosin Nagant before

you even get settled in. Welcome to the forum.

That is not a big problem. Glue it back together with Brownells Accu glas..
Bedding the tang while your at it would be a plus..

Thank you very much Preacher! I'm going to look into how to bed my lady soon...but in the meantime, I just got another Mosin at a gun show today. My Sunday is going to be filled with cozmo cleaning ! YAY!
I can do them both at the same time !

I work with wood a lot. Also i fix and repair a lot of wooden items for friends and family. What i have been using these days with great results is Gorilla brand two part epoxy. This stuff amazes me with its strenght. I use the 5 min variety and that makes it faster. Be sure to clamp it real good and let dry for 24 hours(just to be safe). Welcome a board and good luck.

I would clamp then drill 1/8" holes vertical thru both pieces of wood get some 1/8 wood dowel glue it all and install the dowels to reinforce the split . If you can't find 1/8 dowels try a hobby shop .
Do you live near west palm beach Florida ? If so I'll do it for you or help you .
Gary

Be sure to do a dry run with the clamp or clamping technique. Do NOT glue the clamp to the stock:(. The round wooden toothpicks make nice small dowels. Usually made out of some kind of hardwood.

A small split like that don't really need more than a thin layer of Accu Glas to do the repair...
No need to make it more of a job than is needed....
