More load data with H4895 in the 6mm Dasher

I started a thread about a week or two ago about shooting h4895 though the dasher . Well after a day of reloading and shooting different powders out to 500 yards . I'm gonna start running h4895 and 107 Sierra matchkings from now on . I tried a three different powders rl15 Varget and h4895 . Results were 4 shot groups h4895 .112 with Sierra 107s . Average speed was 2881 with a Es of 7 . 4895 also shot better than any Varget and rl15 load I tried with Amaxes and Berger vld hunting bullets . I also shot 2 sub 1 inch groups at 500 yards with this setup today . My third group with this setup was 1.56 at 500. I have a 500 yard match coming up and I think I should be able to do pretty good with this load if I do my part . Just thought I'd share my info . I'm running 31.4 grains with a 107 Sierra at 5 thou jump

In IBS most of the dashers shoot varget or RL. 15 but I know some that shoot 4895 in MT IBS range they set some new records last year in 6 an 10 match avg with 4895 what ever works for your rifle go with that.

The 31.4 of H4895 is a mild load but if you are shooting under an inch @ 500 then all is good! Maybe you'll get a tad more barrel life running it mild. As i posted before in your other thread I ran my 2 Dashers pretty hot. I still like the H4895 powder!

I ran it up to 32 grains and groups kept getting worse . I decided to stop there . I figured 2880 with a 107 is plenty fast for what I'm doing with it

I think you should have went a little past 32 and you would have hit the next node. 2880 is in the area of a br…… jim
I'll keep that in mind maybe I'll try a little hotter load someday . But for now I'm just gonna leave it . Doubt I'll shoot it much past 700-800 yards so should be plenty fast

I agree with Jim. That is pretty slow for a Dasher. Unless your freebore is short you should be able to get 3000 easy. That extra 100 FPS will make a big difference at 7 or 8 hundred yards. The wind drift will be less and the energy retained will be more. Matt

Yes Im shooting just below that speed with 29.7gr of varget and sierra 107's in a straight BR. With H4895 in the dasher there is a node around 31-32gr with BR4 primers that I found.

My Dasher likes 105 Berger Hybreds at about 3,020fps, I've gotten there with 31.7 gr of Varget, and with 31.2gr of H-4895, as measured by my lab radar. I have shot sub 0.2 MOA groups with both loads side by side, both like the bullet seated just touching the lands to about 0.005" jam. The next node up is around 32.2gr Varget, 3,080fps which gives me pressure sign, cratered primers, and shiney spots over ejector opening. I shot a 594-33X in a local match with that load, but have decided to back it down to the 3,020fps node for now in hopes of equal or better performance, plus better brass and barrell life.

I’m shooting 32.24 H4895 with a 103VT. 3-4 thou in at 3060. Works extremely well. Tried 32.00 with a velocity of 3005 but did not show any signs of wanting to knot up. Round groups but no clusters. I also have a.155 freebore

In all but one of my dasher barrels rl15 shot the smallest. 32.5-33 grains, right around 3000 fps. Cci 450s, annealed cases, and .003" neck tension.

Its strange that people love H4895 and IMR 8208, but have no love for Benchmark. I am pretty sure they are cuts of the same powder.

Could be but Benchmark is the fastest burning of the three with H4895 the slowest. The OP is loading 107's so the H4895 would be about the fastest I would try. I have had better luck going the other way with slower powders like H4350 but then the problem of fitting enough in the little case becomes a problem.

Alex, does the use of CCI 450 rather than CCI 400 tend to reduce the fouling of Re15 in a Dasher? I have found it to be extremely dirty. I would like to use it, but in a 4 target, 20-round for record match, I have to clean my rifle between relays. HELP!
