Montour county rifles melplate uniformer review?

I have one in 30 cal and 338 cal.

You must have been reading my mind because I havent used them yet but was planning on using them this evening or tomorrow. I will let you know what I think when I get done.

I use them, really well made, kinda a pain in the ass to use and time consuming. I had the Sinclair and sold it. I think it does a good job.
I point before trimming and after. I only use it on 6.5 and up. I don't see a difference on target inside 800. At 1300 and beyond, I definitely see a significant difference.

Looking for reviews on the montour county
Rifles melplat uniformer. I currently have the Hoover, But that little copper shard in the hollow point after trimming drives me bonkers, I would think that could deflect wind as well. Feels like it defeats the point of trimming. I see that montour solves that problem. Has anybody here used it???

I have attached a thread I started a while back that might contain something of use.

Finally got through a box of bullets. The MCR does a nice job. Here's my thoughts so far...

Its not really a "hand" tool. My fingers were done after about 30 bullets as there is nothing 'ergonomic' about the design. Definitely need to run the tool on a drill. Dont need the power adapter for long heavy bullets because the cutter shaft has plenty of room to chuck up in a drill nicely. Might need the power adapter for short bullets.

One definite improvement would be a micrometer dial adjustment on the cutter shafts. It's a pain in the ass to get set correctly by sliding the shaft and tightening the set screw and would be nearly impossible to repeat exact cuts when swapping back and forth to different bullets. Micro adjustment would have put the tool over the top. Too bad MCR missed this. But it does work good once set.

Gotta keep the bullet on top when you cut. Keeps copper shavings out of the bullet chamber so bullets dont jam up so bad in the chamber. Sometimes the bullet gets difficult to remove and a lot of turning and wiggling is required. Gotta keep the bullet chamber very clean. I might try a very thin layer of lube to see if that helps removal of the bullet.

That's all I got so far. Overall nice tool for sure. Definitely makes the nicest and most uniform meplats from any tool I've ever seen.

Btw. I just got mine in. And look what it fits on top of perfectly. Super helpful, especially if your gonna use a drill or motor to drive it.

Nice :) Now put the case stop on to hold the bullet in the chamber. Probably use a small piece of rubber between the stop and bullet base to avoid any damage to the bullet

Good idea. My only real complaint so far about this trimmer is the bullet can get a little stuck. I was thinking of polishing where the bullet goes in just a little. Feels like the bearing surface gets hung up on it just a little bit. Also, when I get some time, I want to throw the unit on my friends lathe. I like how the front of the Hoover trimmer is angled from the out side of the body to where the bullet gets inserted. Makes it way easier to grab the bullet when done.

Yeah the bullet is a pain to remove sometimes. Let us know if you come up with a good fix.
