"Moneypenny"...Pics!

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
I built this gun for a gentleman who is not only a multiple time National Champion BE shooter but is also a dear friend. We call it "Moneypenny" for a certain personal reason and it sports a pair of un-circulated 1953 pennies in the grips.

With a touch of nitre blue and some tight groups this gun should go on to win many many matches in the future.

Enjoy the pics and thanks for looking!

1953 was a very special year...

I do like some stippling and Aztec cuts...good grip combined with nice cosmetics.

Four groups out of this gun with an average of 1.169" for 10 shots at 50 yards.

I love a polished blue finish...especially when it shoots this good.

Two different 5 round groups...two different magazines...these are the things you can not learn shooting with your hands.

1.105" for 10 shots at 50 yards...almost broke the 1" mark again!

I do love some nitre blue pins and screws!

THIS is what happens when you don't pay attention to what you are doing with the ransom rest...last shot, phone range, got distracted...FLYER!

A parting shot, the first ever flat topped wad gun I've done. Combined with stippling and Aztec pattern cutting on the top it makes for one nice looking gun that I hope will go on to win many matches in the future.

It's always a pleasure to see fine work.

It amazes me how well they shoot.

If it's not a secret, what load do you use to test your .45's.

I have a nephew ,home on leave, trying to get his new .45 to shoot. I was looking for a place to start. I don't expect it to shoot as well as yours, but I would like to get it to group.

The shine on your work is amazing in more than just looks. It's always nice to see the posts of your work. Thanks Joe.

Joe C, I see double grouping. I suggest you experiment with seating depth. ;D

Very nice, great job as always!

Thanks all for the kind words. I'm glad you still enjoy seeing what I do here with "short arms".

precisionwelding01, the pennies are a sentimental thing to the owner...specifically the year. ;-)

Erik, interesting thing about that. It proves, once again, that changing mags can change POI. The REALLY interesting thing though is that the group still measures under 1.250" with the mag change! That means I did something right. LOL! (notice I finally spelled your name right! HAHAHA!)

Hal, I don't keep my loads secret from friends and people that help me out along the way like you guys here. When I'm not shooting custom ASYM ammo I shoot the following:

Zero 185g JHP
CLAYS or VVN310 at 4.2g for 50 yard line
OAL 1.225"
Crimp .469-470"
New or once fired Starline, ASYM (made by Starline), Federal or WCC (old stuff I have) brass.

If you want to shoot a lead bullet load the following as it shoots just as good as the jacketed even at 50 yards:

Zero 185g LSWCHP
CLAYS or VVN310 at 3.8-3.9g for 25 or 50 yard line
OAL 1.215"
Crimp .469-.470"
Same brass as above for best accuracy results.

Both of the above loads have produced consistent groups out of my guns of 1.350" or less for 10 shots at 50 yards from a Ransom Rest.

Joe

thanks for sharing your .45 load.
I also didn't know and found it interesting that a different clip would change the point of impact.
