Molly vs. Black Nitride

My 6BR requires molly coated bullets to reach desired velocity.
I don't really like the mess though.
Black Nitride barrel treatment reports by some say that increased velocity is possible with uncoated bullets.
So, If anyone has experience with black nitride can, you confirm if it is a substitute for molly coating.

I have experience with black nitriding. I can't say whether it increases velocity. I have not focused on this aspect of the treatment. I am getting very good velocities in 223 with 90gr bullets, but is a combination of powder, barrel length, etc. The loads I'm using with the nitrided barrel are different than my previous untreated barrels.

Sorry no experience with nitriding a barrel.

If it is just the mess, try going to boron nitride. Better lubricant with less moisture issues and doesn't mess clothes up.

The best shooter I know...best by a stretch...uses moly on everything.

Now, "best shooter I know" may not mean much, but I have been Rookie of the year in IBS 1000 comp...3rd overall, Have won the IBS Nat 1K national championships in 2011 and have beewn shooting loading for most of my life, and this fellow has forgotten more about shooting, loading and guns in general than I ever knew He is currently leading the IBS SOY points race. I shoot some molly, but really haven't done much with it in my comp guns...only hunting. He told me how he does it with no mess...works very well.

No experience at all with Black Nitride.
