Model12 6.5×284

Does anyone shoot 6.5×284 at all anymore?

The ghost is back to haunt me!
A few years ago I swore off 6.5×284 after two barrels and exhaustive efforts to get anything resembling BR accuracy from this cartridge. ( I guess 6br Norma absolutely spoiled me).

A friend called me yesterday to tell me about an estate purchase of a Model12 6.5×284 basically unused with a Leupold mark4 8.5 -25 for $1200. He is older and is more into oldschool varmint cartridges vs anything bigger than. 243 cal.

If I buy it I'll be tempted to resume the excruciating path I left ! Otherwise rechamber to a long throated 260 AI or something worthy of a long action.

Just a rant, someone talk me out of this.

I’m sorry but I am not the one to talk you out of it if anything I would talk you into it it is my favorite caliber I have nearly double the barrel life by using Molly I’ve gone from 1100 round replacement to 1600 rounds and still shooting good

I'm a big fan and have both a 6 & 6.5-284. A lot of different guns would leave my safe before my 6 & 6.5-284 did.

Aesthetically, I don't care for Savage CF rifles, but that has nothing to do with how they shoot and they often shoot very well.

I definitely agree with you there my 65 was my second one I definitely wanted something more aesthetically pleasing but my first semi custom if you can say that just good optics and 73309CA3-1C7C-400C-A65F-706B6F914D2D.jpeg a BART line barrel and aftermarket brake was a savage and 338 Lapua
