Model 700 -- Bolt Functions on Safe??

Got a friends rifle over here for a little love.

Model 700, short action, 7-08, Three Screw Trigger -- two position safety. Serial # C6585xxx, Barrel date code -wk (1990 I think).

I think the thing is a BDL, but it doesn't say so anywhere.

Bolt functions with safety on. Is it supposed to??

I did a trigger clean and adjust on it without noticing if it functioned that way before my work. jd

Yes older 700 cdl and newer 700 vtr both function on safe, but no pin fall

Thanks buddy. I did the trigger adjust and all manner of messing with the thing, and never noticed till I was doing the safety checks.

It's actually a pretty sweet little rifle. Trigger adjusted safely down to 2.5 with a little creep. (was 7 before) Put a .025 shim behind the lug, and the barrel floats freely. (Okie free float):p jd

Nice, now its time to take it out n run it thru its paces.

Dug out a B prefix Varmint Special. It has LF (2/85) date code and no bolt lock on safety so before then. Thought it was like '82 or thereabouts with discontinuing the bolt lock safety lever?

I checked the old barrel on my 222, bought used in the seventies. It's BX which would indicate 1973 I believe. No letter prefix on the serial #. It's got bolt lock on safe.

Also got a 40x in 22BR Rem. It has a KQ barrel code, which would make it a 1978. Also lock on safe. jd
