Model 700 BDL Question

Recently bought a model 700 BDL. It is an older style rifle, made in 1972 with the older BDL stock.

It is missing the front and rear sights.

Did the BDL's from this time period have the hood on the front sight? Are the sights the same as the newer BDL's? I know the holes are, but is the sight itself the same or did they change? What about the rear sights?

Sights are the same, as far as I know. I'm not sure which ones were designated to get the hood. If the front has the slot on both sides, you can put a hood on them, they just slide in.

I've got a bunch of sights if you're looking, no hoods though.

Thanks alf. I will keep you posted.

I am a big Remington guy. I love them. I have an entire stable of 700's, but this is my first "older vintage" BDL. They had hoods on them, but I am not 100% positive if the older vintage BDL's did. I think so... but not sure.

I have lots of 760's too, I like them and hunt deer with them in the woods of Pennsylvania.

Anyways, got way off track there.

I think the sight holes are all the same, even going from 760's to 700's.

I'm just not sure if the older BDL's had the front hood or not.

I want to get this rifle looking original. It's obviously missing the sights, so I want to obtain them, even if I don't istall them (because of the scope) but I will have them to have the gun original.

i have my dads 700 adl 22-250. per remington it is about a 1968 (the older records are not that good). front sight has no hood and no slots for a hood. can't help on the rear sight as it was removed to mount a scope and missing in action somewhere.

my 700BDL 30-06 had a hood, i bought it 79-80 and i rebarreled it now. I do have the hood in my lightly oiled gun parts box. yup,i have the front and rear sight with the hood in excellent condition aging for 32 years for this day :) .I took them off day one when i too put on a scope and they been in oil since then.
i took a few pics to post.
The tough part about getting everthing original, is getting the leather sling they came with.

someone will have to valus these and it is for sale.

i am in PA, send me a PM

I have an ALD from the 60's, and it has no hood. I recall (if you really want to trust the memory of a guy who bought a gun new in the 60's!) the difference between the ALD and BLD was that the BLD had a trap door on the magazine, a contrasting forearm cap, and I believe a hood on the front sight. I have a friend that has a 1970's vintage BLD, and will try to remember to ask him.

Never saw a BDL of of that era that didn't have a hood. Should be a pile of them laying around because most guys took them off.

I agree. I took my rear sight off as it was only screwed on. Would have taken the front sight off as well, but it seems to be silver soldered on.
