model 70 action accuracy potential

I have a model 70 short action and would like to make up a 6mmbr or other 6mm for 600yd varminting and maybe 1000yd shoots. Is this realistic with a winchester action??

Wyo,
I friend of mine had Jim Murphy build him a 1K rig on an old M70 Winchester last year. It is in a 6.5-284 and it shoots lights out.

Is it a controlled feed or post-64 push-feed? If the latter it should work fine as a single feed rifle, though you may have to tip the short 6BR case out with fingertips if you extract slowly. Check out the article on John Whidden's .308 Palma rifle:

I have a 6 Dasher built off of Model 70 and it's setup to shoot 600 yd matches and has been known to put 5 down range under 2" on several occasions. This is with my Girl Friend squeezing the trigger as well.
