Model 7 problem

Bought some Remington model 7 parts recently and assembled them today. had a bare action and purchased a bolt, barrel, and trigger. When I cycle the bolt after dry firing it, it feels like it is grinding as you rotate it. This doesn’t happen if the bolt is cocked. Any ideas?

You didn't mention anything on proper headspacing, threading, was the action squared, lugs.

First place I’d look is the nose of the cocking piece and the cocking cam in the bolt. Is it (cocking cam) lubricated with an EP grease? Are they both smooth?

Give the bolt lugs a dab of grease aswell.

many possibilities. Bolt nose touching barrel , lugs dirty or un even , trigger sear too high , more to come as I wake up.

As has been said
Cocked vs uncocked points to the cocking cam surface on the bolt and possibly the cocking piece on the firing pin. I always polish the bolt cam surface.

My first guess is the firing pin spring rubbing on something. If the spring has been cut, check the ends to make sure they aren't grabbing something.

check front base screw. it may be too long

Lubed where the bolt body and shroud meet and problem solved. Thanks for the responses.
