Mod 70 Win 243 Feather Weight

I was wondering if anyone with a rifle like mine knows how many consecutive shots I can shoot before the barrel gets warm or hot enough to make the groups open up. I shoot the NOS 95 GR Bal Tip over 40,5 grs of 4350 and the CCI BR primmer. It shoots 1/2 MOA pretty consistently If I do my part but I never shoot more than three rounds without letting the barrel cool. Any Idea or is this one of those questions that is impossible to answer, Thank you in advance

I ask the same question once and was told too shoot it and see. I believe that is the best advice I can give you. Make sure it is the heat in the barrel and not the heat off the barrel making your groups open up. What I mean is the heat off the barrel will cause alot of mirage in your scope and cause your groups to open up. Good shooting. Brian.

Go shoot it and see for yourself. Probably about 4 to 5 shots. When you get where it is uncomfortable to hold your hand on it for 20 seconds you are going to see the change. There are lots of variables in what you ask. Loads, bullets, burn rates of powder, barrel size, ambient temps and several others factors that control what you are asking.

I have one of them and it shoots great but it's a pencil thin barreled hunting rifle. Accept it for what it is and shoot it accordingly. I'm all for shooters getting into the accuracy game, but please be forewarned...it's better and cheaper to start with a good rifle that's made for accuracy work in the long run. You might ruin that .243 featherweight barrel in a very short while shooting paper with it. First shot accuracy should be all that really matters with a hunting rifle. Let it cool completly between shots and work up loads in temps that you'll likely be using them in. FWIW...Mike Ezell

Thank you all. This rifle has been shot maybe 150 times and never more than 3 in a row before letting it return to outside air temps, 90% of the time it has been shot once and then let the barrel cool for at least 5 min. I am a hunter first and the first shot is always on a cold barrel. Thanks again ;D
