Mod. 7 Remington Options

I have a mod. 7 in 243 that only has about 40 rounds through it . I also have the re-barrel & re-chamber BUG [A terrible disease ] So I am looking at a few choices that I am not sure will work in this little rifle.
#1 is the 6.5-284 or the 257 Roberts AI or the 260 AI
I am also open to some better options if anyone has one ? the rifle is a XTR stainless fluted barrel so it may be better to sell it and start over from a new action?

What is the intended purpose of rebarrel? .....hunting, informal LR target/ varmint?
I would avoid the cartridges mentioned in a short action...exc. the 260 with light bullets.

I build rifles off Remington model 7(s) model 700(s)long and short actions. The model 7 is shorter than the model 700 SA. I would not recommend model 7s for ammunition with a COAL 2.810". They are great actions with serious limitations. ie: no aftermarket detachable box magazines due to not having enough room between trigger and bolt well. There can be serious problems with the 6.5/.284 and .284Win,and 300WSM in short actions wilth heavier/long/high BC bullets in the Remington 700SA.

Thanks for the info, the little 243 is a mod.7 xcr so I think it will bring good money, so I am going to sell it and use the mod 700 in 270. that i bought just this morning from a friend of mine that , called and wanted to sell his 270. its like new but older model, but he only wanted $250 for it. I believe my options just expanded quiet a bit.

I am doing load development on a 6.5 x 47 Lapua deep-throated to the maximum for 120 grain Noslers and fits and functions fine out of the magazine - the other calibers you mention other than the 260 were designed with longer receivers in mind - having said that, a full-fledged 260 on a light-weight Model 7 has pretty snappy recoil compared to the 6.5 x 47, without gaining you any real performance - of course the Lapua is currently a hand-loading proposition only
