"MOA" , 6 BR , 600YARDS

I AM PUTTING TOGETHER A 6BR WITH 8 TWIST BARREL AND WANDERING IF I NEED ANY MOA IN MY RINGS OR BASE TO SHOOT 600 YD , PLANNING ON SHOOTING 105 -108 GR BULLETS THANKS

You are going to need to dial in about 13.5 to 14 inches of elevation from a hundred yard zero. My Weaver T-36 has about 40 inches of adjustment +/- 20 inches. Plenty to spare.

IMO it never hurts to have some MOA built into your setup. The closer I can get to the bottom of my dial @ 100 (preferably 3 to 5 MOA up from bottom) the better I like it. The more up I can dial the better. Once again this is my opinion and what works for my shooting. Of course all my scopes are 1" hunting scopes.

My Surgeon action has a 20 MOA rail built in. My Nightforce 12-42 is only about ten clicks up off the bottom for a 100 yard zero.

If you have not purchased a base yet you could just as well get a 20 moa, but if you already have a (0) moa base that scope has 50 moa of travel so you would be just fine.

Yeah, that wouod be correct, if the bbl is indexed correctly! What are you going to do if your scope is 8 minutes from the top and you all of a sudden need 15 minutes of wind? Just thinkin out loud.

I guess if your setup is that bad.......then go for the Hail Mary.

If your scope is a 30mm tube, Burris Signature rings will give you 0, 10, or 20 MOA of adjustment.

or 30 to 40 if compounded. I love those things.

If you can get a 10 min. weaver stile mount, it would be perfect with Burris sig. zee rings. You can have 0,10,20,30, and 40 min. Your scope can be in the center at 100 to 1000 yds. No lapping rings and no marks on the scope.......jim

How do you get 40 with a 10 MOA base? I will agree with your five settings with a 20 MOA base.

@ Nomad. With Burris signature rings. With a 10 MOA base you could potentially have 50 although I think that's a little too much. The most I've ever been able to use effectively is 40. After that it's getting to close to the bottom and binding the windage.

IIRC, the Burris 30mm inserts come with zero and 10 MOA inserts. So a 10 MOA base and two pair of 10 MOA inserts equals 30 MOA total - unless my math stinks. :)

I believe the inserts that you can buy separately for one inch tubes have a 20 MOA insert. And I could be wrong, but I don't think a 20 MOA insert is available for 30mm rings.

I don't know what you mean by 'offset bushings', but Burris definitely makes rings with inserts for 30mm tubes. I've got three of them on Sightron SIII 10-50x60 scopes which are 30mm tubes.

10 MOA preload is nice, but not essential.

At my elevation, with 2900 fps with 105s, I take 48 1/4-moa clicks from a 100-yard zero (that's 12 MOA dialed with turrets).

As Donovan noted, it's nice to have 10 MOA dialed in so you stay in the center of the scope travel -- but it's not essential. A set of Burris rings with +10 MOA (net) inserts may be cheaper than buying an angled rail!

Your right on 30 mm. rings you can only get 30min with a10min. angle base 40 with the 20min. It's hell to get old........ jim
