Mixing powder

Hello All,

I have six pounds of the same powder four are the same lot the other two are older 10+ years or so.

Can I thoroughly blend these together? I would rework my loads of course.

Thoughts?

At worst, reloading dables in the possibility of dangerous over pressure resulting in damage, injury or death. At best, it can frustrate the hell out of you trying to duplicate a recipe by keeping ingredients precisely the same each time. The cost of 2lbs of powder over a decade ago was, what? Maybe $30? Doesn't seem worth the money to me...but that's just me...

QuickLoad specifically recommends against mixing different lots because burn rate can vary so much - the pound of A4350 I picked up a few weeks ago is roughly 8% different than the referenced powder burn rate in QuickLoad. I suspect it may be difficult to blend the two different burn rates adequately to avoid extreme variations.

I doubt if the powder you have had for years was made by the manufacturer of the more recent powder, as all suppliers are subcontracting their sources out and most have change sources at least once in the last 4-5 years.

forget it, keep it seperate, shoot it up the use the fresh stuff, DO NOT MIX.

I posed the question a while back (not here) and the general consensus was different. But I had that gut feeling it wasn't a good idea. I'm glad I didn't do it then. you all have solid points, some I didn't even think about. I'm glad I asked. Thanks guys.

No mixing imo you will never be able to mix it properly ,use them ase they are and everything will work better.

Ten year old powder is not old I have surplus powder on the shelf that was made after the 2'nd world war and it is as good as it was the day it was made.

Like they say keep yer powder dry and it will last.

If it is mass volume that you wish for sell the six pounds and buy yourself a 8 pound canister. Never mix powders, ever.
