Anyone shoot at the Missoula Montana 1000yd range called Deep Creek. The are having a 1000yd match this week-end and I'm planing on going to observe. Never been to one, and need to start getting my feet wet.

I've been to the Deep Creek Range several times. It is worth the trip out there just for the scenery, not to mention a great bunch of people, most of whom are very good long range shooters who will do their best to welcome you and show you how much fun you have been missing.

Went to the Deep Creek shoot Saturday. It was my fist look at a match "ever". Also my first look at a 1000yd range.

I expected a lot of people to be way intense and preoccupied with what they were doing to visit or answer very sub-basic questions. Not so.... These people were wearing shorts and T-shirts just like me.,they probably put them on the same way as me also)...
Bottom line is the people really were great. It's amazing how much you can initially absorb when you know so little at first.
Found out I could work in the pits as much as I wanted. Never done it before and wanted to check it out too.
I had known I would have to learn, and learn, and learn about reading the wind. But the mirage effect, WOW.. It was 100 degrees and I looked thru someones scope and the mirage was something I never really gave much thought to. It's real....
I've "just" started loading for my 6.5x47 and didn't take it. I really wish I had now. My fore arm is about 4" and I didn't get around to shaving it down to 3". I found out I could've shot it in the heavy class. They have a championship shoot in the middle of August and I hope to go to it. By then I should have a workable load for the 6.5x47, and have the forearm down to 3". I'm really glad I went to watch. Now I'm not intimidated to go and participate. Doesn't mean I expect to see my name at the top of the list, but I know now I can go there as a novice and have a ball and not feel stupid.
