Mini-mauser action

Anyone have experience with interarms mod. 85 mini-mauser actions, re-barrel,trigger options? I am also in search of a rear action screw, checked several places, but none to be found. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, John

I have one in my "I'm gonna build this into..." pile, but that's as far as I got with it.

I also have one in the "blown-up and wrecked, and gunsmithed by others" pile. I may have a screw for you. Thats about the only thing that survived a charge of 23.0+- of Accurate No 7 in 7.62X39.

The threads are 22 x 1.5 mm. I have 2 of them & they are decent actions. Like everything else, the bolt lugs need to be trued.

I will try to remember to post tomorrow a few photos. Mine was originally a 270X39AI. It was super accurate. It will be a 220 Russian next. I'm waiting on the stock maker.

Slightly off-topic, but here is what happens when one mistakes Accurate No. 7 for Reloder 7. This is/was a mini-mauser, but I think the same thing would happen to any action. Brass and shit blew everywhere. Action did what it was supposed to do in this circumstance. Everyone went home in one piece.

Great pic's. Not sure what that says about these actions, seems to have held together. Is there a difference between interarms, remington, charles daily rifles? I am still in need of a rear action screw. Thanks, John

I think it is a testament to the design. It failed, but in a controlled way. Gas and debris were blocked and channeled away from the shooters face.

All the Mini Mausers came from the same maker, Zastava. Maybe some cosmetic differences but the y are all the same.
I will look today for the screw.

As stated, all are out of the same factory. Not a large action but it certainly stood up to an unbelievable amount of pressure. Everything worked properly as it's supposed to in a total failure. They are metric bolts & I can't recall what thread they are but I think that I have a box of them in SS w/allen heads that I bought from one of my bolt suppliers a few years ago. If you don't find any, the worst you would have to do is possibly shorten them & put the leade taper on the end.

I have 2 actions & two bolts that will interchange & barrels in 223, 223AI, 7.62x39 & 30 PPC. Also about 2 stocks too many but I like different ones on different barrels.

These rifles are new to me, read that they have odd barrel threads and need extra work to change. 220 sounds interesting, mine is .223 would bolt face work? Still in need of rear action screw. Thanks John

John,
It would be better chambering it in a cartridge that uses the small bolt face. You could do the 220 Russian if you could get a kind person to rebate or reduce the rim size to the 223 size.

Left to right.
6Br Remington with no flash hole, Lapua 6Br, Norma 6Br with reduced rim, and a custom short 22 Br with a 223 bolt face.
The last one is the cartridge that Red Cornelison devised. He was in the first class of the Bench Rest Hall of Fame. He called the cartridge the 22 Red Russian. He also machine a step in the neck that allowed him to just push the bullet in with little resistance to the proper depth each time.
I got OT, sorry, but you can reduce your rim size as shown in the photos. Red didn't have a large face bolt so he turned the rims down.

Hey John,
Found the screws and they will go out to you on Monday. They are 6mmX1.0 thread.
Cheers,
Ken
