Mini-14

I have tried several over the years. I have never met one that stayed around very long. Best thing I found them to do was fire blanks, when those were available years ago.

A good gunsmith can do just about anything. Most "accurate" rifles had some work done. I don't recall ever seeing an "off the shelf" rifle win an NRA match. There is a lot of bedding and tuning done to them.

Mini 30 seems to shoot a bit better than Mini 14, at lease that's been my experience.

My old mini shot about 1.5" at 100y with 69g smk. 3 shot groups. Sold it with a bunch of hi caps for a bunch of dough! (after a trigger job)

I picked up a Mini 14 about 10 years ago. Shot about 4 - 5 MOA to start. Trigger was about 6 lbs and creepier than Hilary. Got a trgger job done. Now it's about 3.5 lbs total with ~1 1/2 lb clean crisp second stage break. Did the usual buffer mod. Installed a smaller ID gas port bushing and evenly torqued the block screws. Installed a strut. It's now at about a 1.3 MOA using HSM 55 SBK remanufactured bulk ammo. Good enough for coyotes and bowling pins out to 300 yds.

I bought my Mini used 30+ years ago mainly because it was a “ Liberty“ model
probably haven shot it in 30 years, I consider mini’s more of a fun gun than something to spend money on to make it a tack driver. best I remember mine is not scope ready

Buddy has a SS one. The $$ he spent for accuracy return was shall we say not feasible.
He also sold his for a premium to an unsuspecting victim.

I think the biggest mistake folks make with Minnies, SKS's, AK's and such, is to compare their bench accuracy with what a lot of guys SAY their bolt guns are doing.

Also, how is it gonna be used?? If you're standing on your hind legs shooting off-hand at a hundred yards, you might be more accurate, and for damned sure quicker with your three MOA "slamamatic" than you are with your 1/4 MOA bench gun. jd

Yes they can but with a lot of work. Use the basic rules of what was done to accurize m1a's and mini 14's. good two stage trigger job, good bedding job with forward upper pressure, op rod not hitting anything, tight and unitized gas system, etc. That said for a lot less money and headache, but an AR with a free floated handquard and good trigger and be done with it.

I've owned a couple of Mini-14s, but sold them both before I could talk myself into putting $$$ into trying to make either of them accurate enough to hit anything with. I was comparing them to a couple of Colt 1-9tw HBARs that would almost always shoot well under an inch with good ammo at 100yds, and the Rugers just came up lacking...by a bunch.

I was very young. Saw an ad in the Shotgun News moa Mini. Drank the Kool Aid. I put more time and effort into getting that thing to shoot than any other rifle I have ever owned. In the end it was inconsistent, would shoot good next time out disappointment. I sold it and took a good hit lesson learned.
