Military Sniper pull weight?

Wn I bought an XM-3nfom IBA years ago, they recommended a pull weight of 4 lbs if the intended use as to be a viable sniper gun...any former Marine Snipers et al have any knowledge to share? I would think the heart rate of a PRS shooter would be as high as a sniper yet their weights are sometimes in the ounces. Of course targets don’t shoot back...

I have never had one that knew for sure but the one that was here last nite said a 2lb triggertech in a rifle sitting here felt like he liked em

4-5lbs are about where all of my issued rifles are at; Mk-13, M-110 and M-40 when I still had it.

To your point of PRS, just remember that it is a game where the consequences of a negligent discharge are far less severe than a sniper sending an errant round downrange. An ND in a match only DQs them from a match where an ND in school for us is almost a guarantee drop from the course; just imagine if you sent one in an operational setting that you couldn’t take back.

I would think the heart rate of a trained military professional with his life at stake is entirely different than someone playing a Saturday game.

this may be hard for some of you armchair experts to digest; but when at war, a TMs most popular use is for back up TP. When I did my three tours in RVN we had an anachronym (sp?). REMF. Rear Echelon ________ ________s. I leave the last two to your imagination. Not to offend:but in the main, we did not consider anyone who had not been awarded a CIB (other than chopper pilots) worth discussing serious matters with.

I remember the term well from my USMC days. However, as we all can be citizens soldiers per our Constitution; it would be helpful to know some basics if the necessity to form a “well armed militia...” becomes necessary. (Hopefully never) also, every gun has a purpose and we set them up all the time for its expected use; whether PRS, concealed carry, benchrest, etc.. So if I own a Marine Corp XM-3 which uses are tactical, I would like to know how it is suppose to be set for it’s intended purpose...by asking for information I am serious that my trigger is safe And correct for that use...times are changing and what was serious to a few could quickly become serious to the many...

Not military but I shot a Sheriff's Deputy's/firearms instructor's Remington 700 Police. At first I thought the safety was on, then I thought it must not have been cocked even though I had just cycled the bolt. That was one HEAVY trigger.

Hey Baer, In a class at Blackwater years ago,we had our guns set at 4lbs. by an IBA armorer. Col. Chandler was the lead instructor and the class was part military and civilians. Still have it set at 4lbs. and use it for long range. Hope this helps. Jeff
