Mile long caliber recommendations

I would go big for better wind bucking. At least the .300win mag but preferably .338LM. The .375 and the .408 Cheytac are supposed to be very accurate at very long distances. If I'm not mistaken the .408 Cheytac still holds the worlds accuracy record with a 25" group at 2500 yards. I would definitely suggest a custom built rifle. It costs a little more to get out that far. Brian Brown.

7mm of some kind. what's your price range. those others are pretty exotic. price is always a factor.

22 LR, well, that's actually a 1.5 mile round, it says so right on the box! ;D

We have done it with the 260 ackley and the 7mm rem mag. Though the ultra mags are also a great pick. Shooting at these ranges will show you every little mistake you make.

Any cartridge big enough to deliver a .338 bullet of at least 300 grains with good terminal velocity will get it done. Definately .338 Lapua Mag or .338-416 Rigby Improved. Anything smaller will make it that much tougher.

We have killed at 1 mile and 2200 yds. with 300wsm's, we have pounded the mounds of praire dogs at 3500 yds. we just haven't been lucky enough to hit a pd at that distance. If you go with a 338 go with the ultra mag its cheaper in the long run and the ballistics are so close to the lapua it's not worth the extra money.

300 gr at 2850 is minimum goal. Anything else is simply lobbin rounds downrange if you are after accuracy.

Custom action is only way to go.

I'm a little recoil sensitive so I will stick to a 13.5 bench gun and .22 shorts if the long rifle will go 1.5mi just a few more clicks maybe the short will get there. I also mount my scope on the side just so my 1500 moa base will work. 8)
