MIL-SPEC Accuracy Requirements for Small Arms Ammunition

Specification Development
Accuracy requirement based around
10 round shot groups
7.0 in extreme spread max avg @ 600 yds
(1st Production Lot)
3.5 in extreme spread max avg @ 300 yds
(after 1st Production Lot)
Velocity standard deviation 15 fps maximum
A lower value equates to less vertical extreme
spread at long range.

7.62 long range ammo.

Many ears ago I acquired some 5.56 US issued ammo.. It was when there were a lot of local 100 yd offhand shoots. Out of my Rem 700 BDL Varminter that I bedded and added a 2 oz trigger to they shot 2 to 2.5 inches. I found that by pulling the bullets and inserting a 50 or 55 gr Sierra Blitz it reduced those group to .5 or a bit less. Maybe they need to require better bullets to get better performance
 
Note, this is the ammo specification. Ammo is fired from a manufacturers' test barrel under the best conditions within their test environment. This does not appear to be a performance spec for the rifle system.
