Midway USA prices

I recently sent Midway another order for several boxes of bullets, a tube of Iosso, and a Dewey cleaning rod thread adapter.

Midway price for the adapter is $3.68. I then checked Dewey's web site and same item was $2.25 -retail price. Could not believe they are charging more than retail price for this item.

http://deweyrods.com/product/smba-converts-22-cal-rods-to-accept-8/32-brushes.

These little adapters weigh .50 ounce, and the shipping on it was another $4.00 added to my order.

If Midsouth had them I would have changed my order. Beware of MIDWAY prices.

Whatever I order from Midway or a couple of others, the price of each item and the total shipping is pretty clearly stated before the order is placed. So it has always been my choice whether to proceed or not. How the owners spend their money is of zero interest to me.

Welcome to making the rich richer while you just keep your head above water that is why I don't deal with these people.

If you need it, you need it. I try to offset single item purchases on-line by buying cleaning supplies (brushes/patches etc.) stuff that I use alot of to defray the shipping. As for higher than sug. retail...well most mail order places have items that this is done to (powder/primers come to mind)it is what it is.

How do think that adapter got from Dewey to Midway? Was it free transportation? Buy it from Dewey. You don't like Midway's prices or shipping, don't buy from them. Really really simple.

I stood in line once waiting for several minutes while a guy returned a 12 cent screw at Orchelns.

I got a bill from the doctor's office once for .27. Seriously, 27 cents. I thought it very ridiculous, so I wrote them a check for .14 and mailed it to them with a note that said I would pay the other .13 the next month and would they be so kind as to mail me another invoice showing the new balance. I would have loved to have been there when they opened the mail.

The adaptor you paid $3.68 for is the 8x32-8x36. The Dewey website lists it for $3.69. Shipping is $4.00 from Dewey. The smaller adaptors are $2.25. Midway is NOT charging more than retail price. You either ordered the wrong adaptor, or, are looking at the price for the smaller adaptor at Dewey.

Finding out that he is a lion killer, is why I boycott Midway and Caldwell. ::)
What's worse is he is a repeat offender...."for shame.... for shame" ( Gomer Pyle)

Seems to me that a lot are forgetting about the millions of dollars that Midway has raised for the NRA & to fight for your gun rights. As long as it's legal, I don't care if Larry shot a lion or not. Those countries make their laws in regard to animal populations and yes lions can overpopulate as well. The trophy fee on a lion will put a LOT of $$ into the local villages.

Larry Potterfield also puts a lot of people to work with good jobs at midway USA . I'd say he's earned every dime he's made from the way he handles things.

Here's my m.o. Before ordering anything from anywhere I call up my four close shooting buds and get their orders. They do the same when they need something and we always split the shipping. Better than all of us tripping over dollars to pick up pennies wasting time, gas and money running around for a few small items.
As far as Midway's prices, yep, I've paid more through them but it's cheaper than ordering from a half dozen places and paying MORE in total shipping costs.

I think the government should regulate prices of small brass cleaning rod adapters. Or at the least, they should break up the monopoly that Dewey seems to have on small brass cleaning rod adapters. Precedent has been set, look up AT&T.

Not hardly worth the time but if you have access to a lathe and drills & taps you could make one.

I'll bite my tongue, on this response. I while back, I priced some gadgets to fit in a rail on one of my guns. A couple wholly craps later, I was in my shop with some scrap aluminum, my saws and a file. An hour later, I had my parts. Total investment for shop, tools, etc- prolly $100,000. Money saved on parts-$40.00 Yep, I'm saving money!😄😄😄 I look upon anything beyond food, clothing,gas..ie essentials, as a luxury. I choose when to hit the Buy button. I ran my own construction business for 30 years. It always amazed me how many people wanted me to work for free.

So many good replies on this one, and I think I got most of them below.

I'm always amused by the way somebody cherry-picks their "arguments". One small piece was a few cents (or dollars) more, and that suddenly makes the first seller a villain.

Want to save a dollar? Simple.... buy it from the second guy. Don't forget about that added shipping charge though that will wipe out your savings, in triplicate. Whoops! :o

As for Midway and Potterfield, it's simple. American free enterprise at work. He took the risk, created a business, serves the shooting community, and just so happens to have bettered his financial position in the process. He could've just as easily went bankrupt.

How many here own a business, or manage one? what is one of your primary driving factors? Yep, profit. So what's good for you and your business is suddenly evil when somebody else does it.

Myself, I simply comparison shop, for the entire package. If I need five things, and the bottom line, with shipping, is better at Midway than elsewhere, guess what? I buy there. If not, I go somewhere else. Very rarely do I find it advantageous to buy five three-dollar items from five different vendors, even if those individual items may each be cheapest at each of the five vendors.

Whatever I order from Midway or a couple of others, the price of each item and the total shipping is pretty clearly stated before the order is placed. So it has always been my choice whether to proceed or not. How the owners spend their money is of zero interest to me.
