Midland Shooters Association – World Championship Team Qualifier

Midland Shooters Association – 2027 World Championship Team Qualifier

The Midland Shooters Association has been invited by the NBRSA to host one of the qualifier matches that will help select members of the U.S. Team for the 2027 Benchrest World Championship in Luxemburg. We were honored to accept and have scheduled the match for April 11–12, during the weekend we normally hold our Buffalo Classic.

This will be a Light Varmint / Heavy Varmint match.

  • Saturday: Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint at 100 yards
  • Sunday: Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint at 200 yards (after a bench rotation)
Sponsors and Banquet

We have reached out to a number of sponsors and have received generous product and certificate donations, which will be placed on a gift table and distributed to the shooters in attendance.

We will also be hosting a banquet dinner on Friday evening before the match, with prize drawings held at the end of the dinner.
Thanks to generous cash donations from sponsors and supporters of the sport, the banquet dinner will be free for registered match contestants.

Range Information

The range will be open for practice, beginning Wednesday morning and continuing through Friday afternoon, prior to official flag setting and the banquet.

Range accommodations include:

  • Thirty benches with three relays, allowing ample opportunity for shooters who wish to share benches and flags
  • Plenty of covered loading areas
  • Camping spots available
I have attached the match registration/release form for those who would like to complete it in advance and send it in.

  • Please indicate who you would like to share a bench with, if applicable, so we can plan accordingly.
  • Also, if you plan on using one of our camping spots, please contact Mike Conry ahead of time to confirm availability.
The range location and Mike’s email address are included on the registration form.

We look forward to seeing everyone and hope to see a great turnout for this World Championship Team Qualifier.

Sounds like a good time has been scheduled in Midland. Time to dust off the rifles, tune up the loads, and get the wind flags in order. Come try your hand against the Best in the Business!

Speedy Gonzales posted the following to those on his list of shooters. A very generous donation indeed.
"Jimmy Cook and I are donating a Bartlein 6mm batch barrel each."

Now that is above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Speedy and Jimmy.

Marilyn and I might not be able to make it, (business), but we have donated $500 to the Match in support for the NBRSA.
I am also going to send NBRSA President Mike Conry a new Bartlien 6mm LV Barrel Blank that he can choose to raffle or give away to some lucky shooter as he sees fit.image.jpg

Thank you Jackie! We really do hope that you guys can make it to Midland! Looking forward to a great match!

This looks like it’s going to be a great match! Thank you Scott and Mike for all your hard work in putting this one on.

An Update for the Buffalo, we have had quite a few generous sponsors who have really stepped up to support this match. Our club will be hosting a BBQ dinner on Friday afternoon, right after flag setting. This will be followed by a drawing for a whole pile of shooting merchandise and gift certificates. We have a good number of barrels that have been donated along with gift certificates for powder, brass and bullets and other cool stuff like rest, bags, powder measure and rifle actions. In the early days of the Buffalo, this is the 41st year, silver "Buffalo" coins were handed out as awards. Around five years ago, we returned to this practice, if you seen the price of silver in the past few years, you certainly know how much more valuable the silver coins are now days, so don't miss out on your chance to line your pockets with real silver!

We've got plenty of covered loading and cleaning areas along with quite a lot camping spots with 30A service. On the very top post, I attached the match registration form that you fill out and print to can indicate who you would like to share benches and flags with. The long range forecast is looking good with temps in the 60 and upper 70's. Lunch will be provided both days of the match.

Some information about Midland, the range was opened in the 60's, we have a 50 bench covered firing line. In 1966 we hosted our first Nationals. The Results sheet of this match is still hanging in the stat house for anyone interested in some cool history on equipment used and scores shot from that match by so many of the founders of Benchrest shooting. Midland has hosted the Nationals around half a dozen times with the last being in 2011. Midland was also one of the original rotational locations that the Super Shoot was held at before being moved to Kelblys in Ohio. We hope to see you here!

We have shooters already showing up this morning to practice for the match! Looking forward to seeing everyone here, promise it will be a good time, might be a little windy, maybe a chance to see some actual rain in West Texas, but there definitely will be some good shooting going on, come get some of it!
