Mid-long range predator build

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and would appreciate so input here. I'm looking into building a mid-long range predator rifle (which is also my first build). I have a Rem. 700 6.5CM sps. Has threaded barrel and picatinny rail scope base. Been around guns my entire life, just never really into deer hunting so was never into rifles (rather hunt birds). I'm just looking for some input on a good route to go here with the build. I have some stuff I plan on buying already which include : grayboe ridgeback chassis, the M5 bottom metal and detachable box magazine's, and a nightforce SHV 5-20x56mm scope. Besides those big money items, what else can I do to make it a great looking build, and as accurate as possible (main shooting will be 100-500/600 yards. But would like to stretch out further as I get become a better shot with rifles). Obviously I'm not trying to go as cheap as possible, but I dont wanna put 7k into the build either lol. Any info or tips or advice is greatly appreciated. I have already learned a lot by just doing some research, just looking for helpful tips from more advanced shooters/builders. Thanks!

So are you leaving the factory barrel on there and just bolting on accessories? I like an atlas bipod to be as solid as possible. I also like a stock for hunting. Chassis are not much for hunting especially if you want to carry it anywhere

Yes, leaving barrel on this one. I looked into barrels but didnt think it would be worth it for me on this gun right now. And the grayboe ridgeback is more or less a stock. It's not an AR style chassis, just a more tactical looking stock. Has the M-lok at front of forend and an adjustable cheek piece n that's really it. But as for bipod, is the atlas one you brought up a good setup? I was looking into the magpul bipod but haven't gotten anything yet. Mortgage and baby take money lol.

Can I ask why you think the barrel change would not be worth it?

Main reason I ask is, next to optics (which sounds like you have that covered well) a new barrel chambered by a competent smith will be the best money you spend on your rifle.

You have some nice components to work with but if it were me, I would have spent the money on a re-barrel instead of the grayboe....

Let’s see some pics when you get a chance.

Only reason I said I didnt want to re-barrel it is because I want to get the other stuff done to it first, get comfortable shooting it (have never really shot rifles that much. Only shotguns and pistols), and see how steady and accurate I can get with the factory barrel. Once I feel like I'm getting better with it I was going to talk to a local Smith about getting a custom barrel done just didnt want to spend the money right now. If that makes sense?.

From my original post, I am also getting the elite hunter timney trigger for it as well.

And about pictures, I haven't even gotten into the build yet. Only thing I have bought was the rifle itself. Between working 6 days a week long hours, and having a 9 month old little girl I haven't had time to do anything with it yet. But when I start to I will post up pics.
