Mid Barrel Tuners/De-Resonators

I run a Pappas mid tunner on my rimfire BR.
It works well. Can one live with out it. I think one can if they can tune very well.
On a center fire I have never tried it.

Yes they change the tune . But finding the right spot for it to be located has always be a problem. Barrel vibratins is only one vibratiion of many that effect bullet impact location. Larry

Do they take out vertical, horizontal, or both?
They should do both . I expierment some with them but gave it up and put a barrel tuner on.
Eric ,Jim and I developed the first R A S tuner. 6 years later and thousands of rounds of testing ours and many of other's we have came out with with a tuner that is easy to use . With documented facts on what tuners can do. Ours and others.
We have U tube videos and instructions on line how to adjust our tuners.

I was browsing around the hardware store the other day to see if I could come up with something that would work. They had some shaft collars that were too small. Something like two halves of a shaft collar with two tightening screws - possibly lined with rubber or goop. Not sure what the length would need to be.......

My experience is to select your best load and then further tune your gun with a muzzle tuner such as RAS, Erik Cortina, Harrell, etc. When you are finished with both your load and muzzle tuner, attach a Mid-barrel tuner. You will know in 15-30 min if it helps. In most cases, the mid barrel tuner has further tightened my groups in both RF and CF. You install the the Scott mid-barrel tuner with an Allen wrench and then move it in approx 2" increments from of the front of the stock towards the muzzle. For me, mounting the MBT 2-4" in front of the forearm is generally close. Charlie Scott (913) 649-7658 sells his mid-barrel tuner for about $70. There is a good chance a MBT will take an ok barrel to the next level.

With the amount of threads left on the tightening screws, it looks like it might possibly work on a rimfire barrel, too. I can contact Charlie and find out. Thanks for the picture.

I talked to Charlie Scott today, and he said the centerfire mid-barrel tuner will work on some rimfire barrels. It weighs about 5 ounces. He also said one key to them is to follow the directions on tightening the screws. Over-tightening the screws is a mistake and defeats the purpose. :)
