Micrometer for L.E. Wilson Trimmer

Looking at upgrading my L.E. Wilson Trimmer and really like the micrometer attachement that Sinclair Sells. I can't justify the $90 for one. Are they worth it?

I have a friend who is very handy with metal working and he said he could make me something that would hold a micrometer head on the trimmer.

My main question is that their literature says it will work with 22 Hornet cases upto 416 rigby cases. That is ~1.6" difference of length. I can't find a micrometer that has that much adjustment. Does their micrometer acutally have that much adjustment? Or is there another piece that goes between the micrometer and case that makes up the difference.

The max length I can find is a micrometer head that measures 0-1".

- Are they worth it?

Kinda depends, to me it was a huge time saver, it was very easy to adjust to the length I wanted, where as with the course screwdriver - screw thread setup I had to go with close enough is good enough which it wasn't for me.

Also shooting different calibers but using the 1 trimmer means the micro adjuster is real fast and easy to reset the depth.

I will have to have a look to answer your question about the sizing. (I don't have the trimmer handy at the moment).

I had the old sinclair unit that had the starret mic on, now using the plastic mic on the new unit, at first I thought cheap, but it is actually much better, by increasing the bezel diameter they have increased the space between the graduations and it is 100% repeatable when going back to another cartridge and yes I trim from 17 ackley hornet to 300 ultramag on the trimmer.
Only point to be aware of is that if you change your cutter you have to recalibrate the mic to the new cutter.

the graduations are much harder to see on the SS one compared to the plastic, the rest of the unit being stainless is a big bonus but they wont sell it without the micrometer.

I've been using a Wilson Micrometer Seating Die for a few years with no problem seeing the graduations. The new Micrometer Trimmer micrometer looks very similiar. The new Micrometer Trimmer also has a bigger 1/2" stop screw. If it's the same quality of Wilson Tools of past you can't go wrong. Reloaders read calipers and micrometers that are stainless or satin finish continuously even more than they would read a trimmer adjustment.
