Merry Christmas from New Zealand

Kiwishooter.

A belated Merry Christmas from across the ditch.

I however have to have a whinge about NZ and I may as well direct it at you. Simply for convenience you understand. Nothing personal.

I spent 3 weeks in NZ this Sep/Oct after a 25 year absence. I am now planning a few more trips over the next couple of years as I'm planning on retiring there. That's what I want to whinge about - I was all ready to retire here in Queensland and NZ ruined it for me. A simple retirement will now turn into selling and buying property, sorting out Superannuation and tax details with both countries. Reapplying for firearms licences, finding new hunting opportunities etc. It will be a lot of work and I'm not looking forward to a lot of it.

So, thanks NZ for complicating the heck out of my retirement!

Yo Mate, you might want to spend a winter season there before moving permanently…
Spring, Summer are lovely but the long, grey, wet Winters will grind on you…
Of course if funds allow you can always Winter back in Q’ld… Or if you are into skiing you are set if you are in the South Island or even the North though more limited and crowded.
Hunting & fishing are good too and being able to have a suppressor on you rifle will be a welcome change from OZ firearm laws….
Prices have gone up through the roof though the past 15 years and it will be more expensive to live there {even with the exchange rates} and you will long for Q Store pricing at Belmont…
Anyway, good luck to you… Cheers in the coming years.

Dunedin, on the East coast of the South Island
Sorry we missed the opportunity. We were in quite a flurry of preparation to be gone for two months so just no time to set up meetings; never been gone that long before. Fortunately, it being during our fall season here it wasn't nearly as complicated as it could have been in summer.
We had a great time in Dunedin. Took in the Albatross center and yellow eyed penguin center plus that really grand train station and the museum. We thought Dunedin was a really cool town. Unfortunately, there were several people I would have liked to visit with in both Australia and NZ but would have needed a lot more time than we had. A month in each country was in reality just a survey trip. Our itinerary was 46 pages long, and at 80 years old, I don't think we could have handled the pace too much longer. We found both countries to be interesting and delightful in their own ways but my sympathies would be for NZ. That is one beautiful country, scarcely ever not having a fabulous view as we traveled the entire country pretty much. You have a lot to be proud of.

I watch a New Zealander on you tube Marty T. He lives in the mountains and films what it takes to live there. What is so unique is him driving a tractor, dirt bike or ATV up the mountains and popping out of the timber with a beautiful view of a beach and the ocean.
