Melonited barrel and hbn bullets, good or bad?

Any opinions and experiences appreciated, as I have none with this combination.
Also, does anyone know if Speer Gold Dot rifle bullets are treated with hbn? I bought some
6.5mm 120gr Gold Dots a few weeks ago and they sure look and feel like it, but Midway says uncoated.

I had three barrels melonited and the bores were slicker than fresh dog poop on wet grass. Not sure you'd want to treat the bullets.

I built two rifles with melonited barrels, both were known barrel burners. I also used HBN on both.

The 7STW shoots 180 Bergers @ 3,045 fps in sub 1/2 moa groups. 400+ round count. No fire cracking, minimum lands movement. HBN from the start, very low ES.

6.5 wildcat shoots 140 Bergers @ 3170 fps, 1/4 moa 3 shot groups to 600 yds. Light fire cracking after forming 100 cases. JB every 100 rds.
Found it shoots as well without HBN as it does with. 580 round count and barrel looks and shoots great. JB every 100 shots.

I recently had new barrels chambered for each rifle (different twists) for heavies. I Did Not have barrels melonited this time. The reason was you have to chamber and thread, do the break-in, clean to bare metal, disassemble, ship, wait, reassemble and hope it shoots like the others. It takes a lot more time and expense for MAYBE more barrel life. Not worth the hassle, in spite of the two barrels I had treated. Barrels are expendables.

Willie, glad to see you posted on your experience and findings with these to things. Accuracy is what counts.

i had one bbl done, and was told different things about firing before coating.
bottom line was very low precoating shots....like less than 15.

i know one test on fired known quantity bbls that showed improvements after load workup.

lots of "information", very little "data"
