Medals for F-Class Nationals

Shiraz

Site $$ Sponsor
Many of us who have seen and received medals in the past F-Class Nationals have voiced their dismay at the quality of the medals that were given out at this year's Nationals.

This is not the fault of the Bald Eagles Rifle Club that organized and held the matches. The company that these medals used to come through has gone out of business, and the BERC did the best they could given everything else they had to organize.

I have identified an alternate source and am working with them to get some medals made up primarily to replace the medals I received at the Nationals so that they would match all others from the past. If any of you guys that received medals this year at the F-Class Nationals want to replace yours, please feel free to contact me directly shiraz@grizzly.com and I will let you know the cost and order accordingly. Once the design is finalized (should be identical to the old ones), I will get a quote for the one time die and set-up charge and then the cost per medal. I am thinking about getting all three made up - Gold, silver and bronze. This is what the old ones look like. They are much nicer in person.

The same company that makes the old Nationals metals makes the SWN metals and I believe Michelle said that they are still in business, just under a different name. I know they ordered the SWN metals a month or two ago. Let me see if I can get the company name. They might still have the mold.

Metalcraft Mint in Wisconsin (Greenbay?) bought the assets of Northwest Territorial mint. As of a few months ago they (Metalcraft) had the face die for the F-class medals, but had not yet found the back side die. They may have found it by now.

Shiraz the contact that Michelle forwarded to me is brenda@universalproonline.com

Matt, I will contact them on Monday and am also awaiting the final quote from the other company I contacted. If there are issues with finding the old dies, I will just pay for new dies myself and that way we will have something for the future of our F-Class matches and shooting sport. I should know early next week. Thanks.

Last call. I will be placing an order for these today.

Medals will end up costing $6 each for any flavor, plus $7.50 shipping per order (does not matter how many medals). All will be shipped via USPS smallest Priority mail box. Please send me an email and not message me. Again, the email address is shiraz@grizzly.com.

Shiraz,

When we had to make an order for the medals we tried to contact Medalcraft and did not have any success in finding the dies or getting any commitment of receiving any medals in time for the F Class Nationals. We found a place that would run medals in time for the Nationals. I am sorry you are not happy with the medals and no one said anything about them except for not receiving enough team medals which I am in the process of getting. It gets to be very hard to make some competitors happy. Again I am sorry you did not like the quality of the medals given. Maybe you would like to take care of ordering the medals for next year. We are looking for volunteers. If the price you quoted of $6.00 per medal is right, we would be thrilled to get them for that price if it also includes engraving.

Hi Earl and Karin,

Judging by the response I got from fellow shooters who were obviously unhappy with the quality of the medals (over 20 people have ordered well over 100 medals from me in response to this post) I would say that it is a safe bet that there were a lot more who are unhappy, and not aware of this post. No-one is going to complain to you about the medals when we see how much work you guys already put in. We are just dealing with the problem on our own.

The main issue is that everyone is hung up about the dies. The dies are not that expensive and I paid for them from my own pocket to help out. The delivery is only 6 weeks, so there needs to be some planning, instead of trying to order them at the last minute. The price of the medals is good. I was quoted double by the people that supposedly have the old dies.

As far as taking on ordering these medals for the next F-Class Nationals - I would be happy to do that, but someone else will need to be responsible for the engraving on the back of each medal. The price does not include engraving and if you are ordering a few hundred of them, the price will go down. Tell me how many of each you want and I will get a quote. Don't wait till summer next year to start thinking about ordering them. You guys already know how many you will need, so I would order them now and get this item checked off from the list. You still need to send them out for engraving on the back after the medals are received.

Since I have your attention. What happened to the large trophy for the F-Open Champion that I had prepared a few years ago? Either I missed seeing it in Raton or it was never transferred to the new location. Thanks for all the help you guys have done over the years for our sport.

Hi Shiraz,

Thank you for the information. I will let you know later how many medals will be needed. If Medalcraft will not do the engraving we will have to find someone who will do that for us at a reasonable cost before ordering the medals. Would be nice if Medalcraft can do engraving - do not know that now. I always ordered medals in February or March from Northwest Mint and can order earlier if necessary. They always wanted 6 weeks in advance (most companies do that). Might take longer if we have to go somewhere else for engraving. This year was not the best for getting medals - I tried contacting people at Medalcraft and nobody answered me - by email or phone several times. Which meant I had to find someone else to do the medals in short time. Had a local company do the medals and I was very thankful they could do them in a short period of time. Even though I knew people would probably not like them - because they are not heavy or big enough - not like the ones from Northwest Mint. I was just happy to get them at all.

Several years ago the dies cost us a lot of money - between $6 and $700 if I remember right. That was a big concern for us this year.

The F Open Champion trophy was sitting on top of the cupboard the whole time - you just missed seeing it that's all.

I will send you an email on how many medals we will need this week. I never have waited until summertime to think about getting medals - this year was terrible!!

Karin - just email me. You have my email address.

Yes, I found out after my post that the trophy was at the Eagle's nest and not at the awards banquet. Next year we will get you some help and get them moved to the awards hall so that the winner gets "presented" with the trophy. We will get some young bucks together for help..

Update on medals. For those that have paid for and are waiting for replacement medals for the 2018 F-Class Nationals, I have received samples and they look great! I am waiting on two more samples of the gold and silver medals and should have them (the samples) by the end of next week.

Attaching a photo of the Bronze medal sample. Looks delicious! I did order some extras and so if you missed out on ordering some, let me know what you need. Pricing is $6.00 per medal plus $7.50 for shipping regardless of number of medals.

The medals arrived this afternoon so all will be shipped by tomorrow. I ordered some extras, so if someone missed out let me know what you need and I will tell you if I have enough.

Thanks for your patience.
