Medals and Awards

Hi guys. I may be running some matches this year at a local shooting club and I’d like to do something neat for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each of the classes. Where can I find shooting medals on ribbon online? I haven’t had a great deal of success tracking down these medals. Any advice would be welcome. If it makes any difference, these will be non-sanctioned matches.

Looking for American made, or anywhere in the world?

As a side note, the local clubs have started giving out challenge coins as prizes, and I really like those compared to ribbon medals... Easier to display at home.

I don't know about medals but contact Jeff Gates here on
these forums. Anderson Creek hands out win and place
stickers. Most guys plaster them all over there range boxes.
I think Jeff needs a new box....He ran out of room...LOL

What are the challenge coins? What do they look like? How do you display them? Have any pics?

KY Truck Plant awards Challenge Coins to recognize those who go above and beyond in their work performance, volunteer through charitable events (Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, etc), and/or assist/support the Emergency Response organizations after local natural disasters.
These are quite coveted, and I am proud of mine over the years, although I need another case to display the latest.

When shooting archery years ago some of the club members made trophies on some wood bases, I made they were creative and used some broken arrows that were neatly cut down and broad heads attached to them. I liked those the best.

I run both matches at Mifflin county sportsman's club and for both of our monthly matches I hand out stickers. Everyone seems to like them. Then at the end of the year the overall winner of each class, will either get a plaque and or a prize.

The MD at Scarborough in ME has a laser engraver for engraving actions and barrels. He started engraving "coins" cut from old barrels. They aren't fancy, but I think they are pretty darned sweet.

I like the "Challenge Coin" type awards. The gold one is from the NRA, be dipped if I could tell you what match it came from, Raton at one time or another if I recall correctly. DSCN1316.JPGDSCN1314.JPG

As someone else mentioned, consider the costs. I shot a lot of archery competitions 30 years ago. They always did awards on a 369 basis. You needed at least 3 shooters in a class before there was a 1st place award given out. 6 in class for a 2nd, and 9 shooters for a 3rd. That way there was money to cover the cost of the awards.

We do a couple longer leagues and I did these for the last couple years. This year I’m making custom ammo blocks with their score and such on them.

You might visit this site; they made the coin I received from the Wilson Combat booth at the NRA Exhibits in Louisville. According to their records, Bill built my 1911A1 in his earlier days.

My all time favorite, however is the one gifted by my Brother after his third tour in Iraq for all the care packages my Wife and I, and my Drive Team at Ford sent to his Company while deployed.
Paperback books, hard candies, crystal light drink mixes, jerky, chap stick, lotions, baby wipes, and other treats to their bases and FOBs.

I made some custom hitch covers for prizes that a local trap club gave out. They are made out of solid brass with a stainless steel primer attached to a 2" aluminum square tube. I can engrave pretty much any text on them as long as there is enough room for it. If you can't park your truck in the gun room then they can be attached to a wooden plaque to be displayed there.

Does anyone make challenge coins that are for rifle shooting that are somewhat generic? Ones that you wouldn’t have to pay for the artwork and start from scratch??
