Mechanically Challenged Member Needs Help With O/U Shotgun

Problem solved....took it to a LGS where they have a knowledgeable "gunsmith" guy, and he pushed the cocking lever back, and it fits together as it should.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.....I appreciate your willingness to help!!

Glad you got it, it can be frustrating at times.

I recently purchased my first O/U, a Winchester 101 and it about ate my cake trying to put it together. Now it's easy peasy.

You probably pulled the triggers after it was disassembled or while trying to put it back together. Try what Silver $$ said above. I think the cocking lever is the thing that looks like a tuning fork.

I cant believe it would fire with the action open. What would be the best way to cock it back?
It would depend on the angle of the cocking cam or pins . It's been a long time since working on shotguns but the old LC smiths had 2 large pins ? That a 7/16 box end would fit and you would strong arm them back to cocked . Dang , I wish I could now . Anyway that was if you didn't want to pull the locks out .
On the modern stuff I'm sure it's goin to take some muscle and maybe a c clamp .
Sorry I couldn't be more help .
Dusty , the 3 phase motor is a 5 hp 184 T frame and came off my old Clausen lathe .

I found out the hard way what can happen if an OU is not assembled in the correct order. My Citori 12ga is normally stored in the case with the hammers released.
One opening day of duck season, I managed to mount the barrels to the receiver, clip on the forearm with the barrels still in the open position.
I walked out to the pond with the barrels open and gun over my shoulder. I had not closed the action for the first time yet, which would have cocked the hammers upon opening. I placed two shells in the chamber and slammed the action shut.

It was a very good thing the gun was pointed upward and away from my hunting party when both rounds went off.

Haven't done that again since.
