measuring scope height

When measuring scope height to enter into a ballistics program, do you get the calculations by dividing the dia of the objective end of the scope in half and the same with the muzzle end of the barrel to find the center and then measure the distance from the bottom of the objective end of the scope to the top of the receiver and add? Am I on the right track here?
I thought this would be the best place to ask, it seems that there are alot of knowledgeable folks here and a great forum to boot.

For the ballistic programs, the "scope height" means from the rifle bore axis to the scope optical axis. You can measure the distance from the bottom of the scope tube to the barrel, then add half the barrel diameter at the same location and half of the tube diameter. This should be of sufficient accuracy.

Just pull the bolt back a little. Next to the back of the receiver measure from the side..... 1/2way down the bolt's diameter to the center of the scope's diameter. You can get a very accurate measurement.

Thanks fellas,I have one more question. I don't have a 500 range to go to, would it work if I were to set up at a 100 yrds after I ran my ballistics and marked them out on the target and then started at the bottom of the target and did my come ups at intervals of 25 yrds to see how close they are to the ballistics and then if there are differences, adjust my clicks accordingly? Would this work? Thanks, C32

No, you need to shoot it at distance to verify your info.
