McMillan hunter

looking at a McMillan hunter stock for a hunting rifle build. Wondering if anyone has pictures of one with a #4 contour barrel in it. I'm kinda wanting to see how the forearm looks with that contour in it. I don't what it to be to sharp at the edges. McMillan has that as the largest contour it will except. Thanks

They are right. Its my favorite stock for a hunting rifle, but a #4 is tops. A #4 looks good, a #5 is thin. I prefer to put a rem mag contour in them, the shank fits better. Be careful of long shanks, the stock can get thin there too. I have put #5s in them, but dont like how thin the edges get.

Thanks Alex. I was kinda wondering about the shank on them two. As McMillan shows 1.5 shank length as max. I fingered with a #4 brux you'd be somewhere around 1.9.
Maybe all look at there new game hunter stock

I've got a game hunter 20/222 with a #6 rock creek, 3" shank fits fine. Kinda wide on forend for sticks at times though

A #4 is perfect in this stock. Go for it. Your gunsmith can make the shank any length.
That stock is what I keep going back to. I kinda wanted to keep the shank as long as I could. In the end having to cut 1/2" more off the shank won't kill me when I barrel it up.

I have a Bartlein 2b in a Mcm Hunter. I would think a Bartlein 3 or Douglas contour #4 would be the largest contour for this stock. Very comfortable stock.

McMillan's GameScout has nearly the same forend as the Hunter.
My 22-243AI has a #4 Brux, fits like a glove...

Assuming this is for a Remington pattern, the Remington Hunter stock is also patterned from the Sako 75 stock but will accept up to a #8 contour and works great with a #5 or #6. It would completely solve your problem. I don't think a #4 would look bad and you could have as much shank as you want. I would rather have a little extra forearm width, especially if the rifle is to be shot from a bipod. Skinny equals flimsy.
