Hi all,
Am curious to know if the McMillan F-Class stock is used much in 600-1000yd bench-rest in the USA or any other part of the world at club, state, national or world class levels ?? If so are people winning matches with them?
I believe some use it. The problem is it is heavy and to make 17 lb you need to sacrifice in other places. The trend has been going to longer stocks to help with balance. Wider front and rears to help with tracking. The stock from Precision tool and rifle is getting popular. I believe Alex Wheeler has a new one and Shurley Brothers have a few.
You don't need an adjustable cheek piece for BR. A lot of guys don't like the cheek contacting the stock. They are using high bases and rings to get their head away from stock. The important thing is getting the parallax out the scope. Then cheek contact doesn't mean anything. A lot of guys are going free recoil. Matt
Billy Copeland has been using one of the McMillan F Class stocks for sometime (I think on his heavy gun but I'm not 100% certain on that) and he has shot very well with it.
Alex Wheeler's Deep Creek Tracker is a stock that should absolutely be considered by anyone putting together a new build or are searching for a replacement for their current stock.
I shoot a McMillan MBR in 600 yard and a Masterclass just like the MBR in Light Gun 600 yard IBS and Bench Open competitions with good success, both guns weigh less then 17 lb's . I prefer this style of stock because of the higher cheek hold for proper optic to eye alignment and I think they tend to be stiffer in the forearm. At the recent IBS 600 yard Nationals I noticed that more bench shooters are using an MBR style stock.

Thanks for the feed back guys..
No Stu not looking at changing stocks mate as my intention is to shoot F Class with 6BR and 284.. but they seem to shoot fairly well at 500m from a bench also so was just curious to see if anyone else had had any success with them from bench. I will be stocking my Dasher at some stage with a dedicated LR Bench-rest stock though.
