McMillan A3 or A3-5?

I am having a hard time figuring out which one I want, A3 or A3-5. I just don't know about the butt hook. How dose it help? Under what situations? I plan on shooting mostly from a bench with front rest and rear bad, and on occasions prone/hunting. Will the hook be a problem on the bench? Also, the adjustable cheek rest looks like a nice feature, comes standard on the A3-5, and can be added to the A3. Pros? Cons? What about the adjustable butt plate? Two way, three way, spacer system? Pros? Cons? Too many options for such a simple mind! ::) any and all input is welcome. And yes I am sold on the McMillan A3.

Go to snipershide for all the input your heart desires. What are you using the stock for? Adjustable hardware can be useful: depends on the activity.

I am hoping to do some 1k shooting, most likely prone. We don't have a 1k range so I will have to find a remote stretch of beach to shoot that far. Most shooting will be from a bench 450y . There are no comps here for precision anything. The reason I like the A3 is it seems to be a good all-around stock, and useable for hunting, from the truck of course, I go to Texas for deer season and want to use it for pigs and coyote. The bench stocks are situation specific, and I want utility. Dose that make since? :-\ I am not a tactical type of guy, the A3 seems to be a good compromise for bench, prone, and hunting.

I shoot an McMillan A5 with adjustable cheek piece and adjustable LOP in F/TR. Like it so much Im having a hunting rig built on a A3-5 adjustable cheek piece and adjustable LOP. The A-5 stock has a wider forend than the A3-5. Where you hunt at in Texas?
Good luck.

Right up on the Red between Quanah and childress. Buddy runs a ranch up there with lots of critters! I have settled on the A3-5, thanks for the input.

I have a 6.5x68 improved sitting in the McMillan Game Scout. Best configured stock for prone shooting and hunting I have ever used.

The game scout dose not take my barrel contour unfortunately, Krieger #18lv. But I will definitely look at that one for my next build, thanks.
