McMillan A-4/5??

i have been looking for a "tactical" stock to put on a rem. 700la and i really like the look of the A-4 but i have never heard of anyone using them and it seems like alot of people think its a no brainer to buy the A-5 so what is the difference between the 2 and what makes people pick the A-5 over the A-4

If you're familiar with the A2 and A3 stocks the A5 is to the A4 as what the A3 is to the A2, in very broad terms. Clear as mud?

The McMillan A4 was designed in conjunction with the USMC and is standard equipment on their M40A3 sniper rifle. It's a large heavy stock with a large pistol grip similar to the A2 and a deep forend that's also similar to the A2, only it's parallel to the top the top instead of having a tapered contour.

The A5 was designed by McMillan in response to input from shooters who wanted what they considered the 'best' features from the A2, A3, and A4 combined in one design. The A5 has the A3's smaller pistol grip. It's forend more resembles the A3 but it has a wider and flatter profile with the barreled action sitting lower in the stock than the others. Its butthook is skinnier and longer than the A4. It's generally lighter than the A4 when both have the same fill.

IMO, the A5 is more versatile for the average Tactical shooter, but naturally it would be best to shoot 'em both, or at least handle 'em both before you make a decision.
