McMillan 1K-4 Stock?

I was looking at the McMillan website gallery and noticed a stock called the 1K-4 Stock.

Are they new? I've searched the internet for any info and drew a blank??
I'm assuming they are for long range bench-rest, is anyone currently using them or have any info on them??

Cheers Rushty

Yep, new last year. Mcmillan is making me a stock similar to it. Main differences are the 4" section is shorter like a hammerhead, it will have 1/2" tall sides to comply with IBS bag rules, aluminum tracking rails up front and adjustable rudder in the rear. Should be the best 600/1k stock out there, at least in my opinion, which is why I wanted them made :)

Very nice Alex I hope they are a hit, by the sounds they should be.
How high are the sides on the 1K-4?
Will we be able to order your model through McMillan or yourself or both?

Cheers Rushty

I believe they are .7" tall. You will have to get the new ones from me. If your not shooting competition and want a 4" stock the 1k-4 would work great for you and will be a little cheaper because it doesnt have the rails and rudder. Plus you can order direct and get it inleted for your action which may be what your after. I will be stocking flat tops and will special order inlets if someone is wanting a factory inlet.

I'm shooting a Panda f Class in a McMillan F class stock at moment in the 500m fly in OZ, its shot from a bench for group and score.
Am looking for a dedicated Benchrest stock, only requirement I have is to keep the gun in light gun class which is 17lb or under.
I've been very happy with the two McMillan stocks I already have so would like to stay with McMillan.

Alex -- do you have a copy of the IBS rules that included the 1/2 inch side restriction? I started doing a little research and did not find any mention of it in the NBRSA longrange rules and a quick scan of IBS didn't turn up anything. I am by no means stating it doesn't exist but I would like to see all of the restrictions in the rules before I decide which stock to purchase and/or build for myself.

thanks,
JP

Its not actually a stock rule. There are no stock rules for long range IBS. Its a bag rule. No more than 1/2" of vertical side contact with the bag. Making a stock with 1/2" tall sides simplifies this, otherwise you need a custom bag with 1/2" tall ears or some other way of limiting contact. Look under rests or sand bags in the IBS rules. NBRSA does not have this rule.

I think I found the part of the IBS rule that pertains to this. Doesn't seem like NBRSA has the same restriction

7) A front sand bag rest shall support the front part of a rifle: a rear sand bag rest shall support the rear part of a rifle: neither rest can be attached to the bench, the rifle, nor each other; they must be movable in all directions independently of the other. Any part of the rifle resting there on must maintain a minimum of one - half inch distance from any part of the retainer or container holding the sand bag on which the rifle rests. Whenever the rifle makes contact on its sides, there may be a maximum of sand one - half i nch high and a minimum of one - half thick on each side. Sand bags on front rests must be a minimum of one and one - half inches wide by four inches long and rear rests sand bags must be a minimum of one and one - half inches wide by three inches long. No device of any kind can restrict the upward and/or rearward movement of the rifle. Any; sand bag used as a rest that is not supported by a retainer and that has movement without restraint need not comply with this rule.

Rest. A front rest sand bag shall support the front part of a rifle: a rear rest sand bag shall 259 support the rear part of a rifle; neither rest may be attached to the bench, the rifle, or to the other. 260 They must be movable in all directions independently of the other. Any part of the rifle resting 261 thereon must maintain one half inch distance from any part of the rest holding the sandbag on 262 which the rifle rests. Wherever the rifle makes contact on its sides there may a maximum one 263 half inch in height and a minimum of one half inch thick on each side. This does not apply to any 264 devise holding the sand bags in place or any fore-end stop. Sand bags on front rests must be a 265 minimum of one and one half inches wide from the direction of the muzzle to the butt stock and 266 rear rest sand bags must be a minimum of one and one half inches wide by three inches long. 267 Multi-piece front bag systems are acceptable as long as they meet all other criteria listed in this 268 definition. Only “Heavy Guns” are allowed rear rests that utilize mechanical adjustments. Rifles 269 will be removable from their front rests without lifting any part of the front rest from its contact 270 points with the bench it is occupying.

If you follow IBS rules you should be good with everybody else I believe. Just make sure your bag is 1/2" thick and no more than 1/2" side contact and your good. No big deal. If the stock is 1/2" high on the sides its real easy :) Feel free to contact me for any help on the rules. If I dont know I'll find out. Thanks.

Comagutsa,
Yes mate have looked into these stocks a little more from McMillan... they are awesome for what we are doing I'm hoping I see/feel an improvement once it's in the bags. I will be talking with Dave about them soon, will find out exactly what my barrelled action, scope, rings and trigger weigh so I can order the stock to keep Gun in light Class... so I can keep beating you with one gun in both classes!!!
I believe Alex's stocks are 4lb and over, there is some more info on them in the Competition Forum under 'Stock tracking and straightness'(video). Have a look at his rudder set up its very impressive I will endeavour to have one installed on my stock.

Cheers Rushty
