May longrange rimfire match

It's that time of the year again for my long-range rimfire shoots. Not sure how much interest there is this year but we'll see how it goes. Distances will be from 25 yards to 197 yards on swinging steel plate racks. Lots of shapes and sizes with maybe a couple novelty targets mixed in.

100 rounds plus a few extra for checking zero and 5 allowed sighters that a shooter can use at their descretion on any rack they desire during the match. I have a covered firing line with two benches and can shoot two shooters at a time.

To keep it somewhat even and not have a runaway equipment race I limit ammo costs to a max of $8.00/50 based on Champion Shooters Supply website. No tuners or heavy benchrest style front rests. Sandbags or bipods for the front and bags or even a monopod can be used on the rear.

The last couple of years I had my matches on the third weekend of each month except for July which I skip having a match. This April match falls on Easter weekend so I'm going to be here on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It takes about 1 hour to shoot the match.

A $10.00 donation is required for each entry, you may re-enter and shoot again for an additional donation. First place winner gets $25.00 and there will be at least one $25.00 drawing and could be more based on how many entries there are.

My email is Topstrap@gmail.com The shoots will be held at my personal range near St. Clairsville Ohio. Eye and ear protection is required as well as a chamber flag or open bolt. No handling of the firearms will be allowed until it's your turn to shoot. Safety is number 1 priority.

If you've never tried longrange rimfire shooting I think it's every bit as challenging as our 1000 yard matches with the centerfires. Pretty satisfying to see that small target way out there swing and hear the distant "ding" after a hit.

KYL, how many can you hit or how many do you think you can hit before missing and losing all your points for this stage? Top left is 10" and goes down to 1" on bottom right. This is at 197 yards.

Long range 22LR is a hoot! I've been working on getting a little project going just looking into getting targets and stands, probably just a few fella's getting together and playing but some of the folks I've spoke with would like to see it go a bit further BUT with life being crazy it's taking more time to get together than I thought it would.

Question for you and if you can pass on info great, who are you getting your targets made from? I think the AR400 in 1/4" would be overkill but should make a nice dink when hit so you can verify hits as it seems those little 22's don't have much punch past 100 yards. Later,

I made nearly all my target racks. A buddy also came up with some cool racks and brought them over. 1/4" steel is plenty for the racks. I did have to go to 1/4" AR 500 for the impact plates on each side of the axe due to all impoacts being in the same area after being deflected off the axe sides.

Some of my earlier racks I placed farther out are only 3/16" and look like the day I made them. Taken lots of hits. If you can afford it a harder 1/4" plate would be nice but limiut them to 22 rimfire only.

Good luck

I was curious about who you got to cut out the targets themselves. I was thinking about just using 3/16" but wondering if you could hear the hits?

I was thinking just using bar stock with a shepherds hook way to hang the targets so thing would be easy to set up and change things. Later,
