Mauser Stock Identification & Help With Fit

Hello all, I bought an NOS Fajen stock for my Mauser ‘98 target rifle going back, and the fit is poor IMO. This is especially true around the floorplate, specifically the rear shoulders of the magazine well. The stock would work otherwise. Perhaps I could fill the voids with Marine-Tex, or find another stock. I will attach pics in the event anyone can shed light on what I have in this stock. Maybe someone recognizes the number on it or has old Fajen advertising.

Some of the misfit seems to be the difference between the military 4 screw floorplate, and the two screw that I have.

I’m not a fan of filling voids with gobs of Marine-Tex, but may have no option. This is just a hobby target rifle, and it would be on the bottom so to speak.

Thank you, Peter.

For Sure your Trigger Guard is not 98 Mauser Military ? As you pointed out.
No small lock screw next to main screw.

What is any markings on your receiver ?
Some 98 Yugo's and Turk's were shorter ?

The only markings that remain are the serial number and a few random alpha and numeric inspector type stamps. The crest, and all the traditional markings are gone. The length is the same as a VZ-24. I’ve tried very hard to ID it from what is there, and gave up. Thank you!

PintoPete,

I have several of these stocks with different caliber actions which worked well when bottom metal was bedded, no matter how much used. Mostly with VZ-24s, but one or two with other actions.

your receiver appears to be an intermediate action made in 7.62 argentine and it appears to be modified to take the 8 mm ( notch in receiver ring ) Turkey did that alot to 1903 mauser ctions . As did others . How does the receiver fit . The trigger guard is military , just either a early small ring 98 or a 93-95 trigger guard , which will bolt up to a intermediate action . Unfortunately the feed from the 93-95 guard usually overhangs the feed ramp of the receiver.

I just got a Mauser target stock a few days ago. It also has a gap in front, when using commercial bottom metal. I tried one from a VZ-24 and it’s just right.

I’ll post more pics when I get home. I’m leaning towards it being Turkish. Virtually all origin markings are gone. Only the s/n remains which has characters that are shaped differently than the German or Swedish font style. Thanks everyone.

Not much more than this. But compare the shape of the numerals to a known Turkish crest detail as in the second picture.

Its a 1903 Turk , all Ive examined were made in Obendorff , and soft . Check for bolt setback before you start rebarrelling . Install complete bolt install in action , close bolt and check how much effort it takes to open . Thats just a quick check . Of course you need a good mauser to compare to . The next test requires more time than I have now . Good luck

Thank you! I’ll check it over well. This is a target rifle that is chambered in .244 Rem (6mm Rem), that was fitted with a left hand target stock. I’m a righty, so need to change the stock. It has an NECG style set trigger that I would like to keep. I may just use the stock that I have in the earlier pictures and use a gray bedding compound to fit the action, and trigger guard/magazine assembly. Just a hobby target rifle anyway.

Thanks again, Peter.
