Mauser Single Shot

I have a Mauser Single shot action.. solid bottom from the factory. And Im wondering what I should build on this thing. I want to hunt varmints with it.. a heavy barrel.

My first thought was a 22-250.. since its an "old action", which would suit the old cartridge. Now, Im not sure. Maybe a 6BR?

Anything that has a .473 cartridge head will work. If it's a single shot target action, the extractor should be already modified to be able to load straight into the chamber. The action will handle anything that you make, only downside is a slower lock time. You just need to be a slightly better shot.

Its a single shot target action..with a .473 bolt head.

Im thinking titanium fireing pin, stiffer spring.. to compensate somewhat for the slower lock time. Also a Timeny trigger.

Its not strange to use such a small cartridge as the 6BR in that large action?

Butch: Im at the other side of the Atlantic.. :) I wish it was easier to sell across borders, but..

The Tubb replacement firing pin & spring will speed it up considerably. You can also go to a speed lock cocking piece but the target action may already have that. Put whatever length round that you want in it. It just allows you to seat out the bullet further if you wish.

I have a friend that has a 6mm Ackley Improved built on one of these actions. It shoots very well, and has not been too tough on the barrel (Lilja 12 twist). It has proved to be an outstanding large varmint round (rock chucks and ground hogs), shooting 80 grain Berger or Fowler bullets. I wish you well on your project.
