Mauser 98 Bell & Carlson stock

Hi all
I'm trying to bed a mauser 98 in a bell & carlson stock for my dad. It's a project thats been lying around for to long. My question is: should the floor plate contact the bottom of the reciever across the bottom and front pillar? I've done a lot of fitting on the stock to get the action to fit how I think is correct, but I still have no contact between the floor and reciever. The gap is about 1/8 - 3/16 or so. Is that ok or should I keep sanding? Thanks
Scott

I have a Medalist stock (w/ bedding block) for a 98. The only issue I had was opening the sides of the stock to fit the one-piece bottom metal (has magazine attached) where the magazine slips in. I think it is advantageous to have the front pillars contact each other as that is a solid point of support. Try calling Bell & Carlson. They were very helpful regarding bedding on another project I had.

The receiver should not touch the bottom metal. It will keep you from tightening the receiver into the stock. You need about .030-.045 clearance between them.
