Following are the match results from a recent 600 yard Benchrest competition in the Sacramento area on February 27, 2022. The results shown below don't show all of the scoring for that match, instead we're just showing the scores for the top shooters that day.
The information below has been added before the match results for readers Not familiar with the scoring process for Benchrest Matches.
Light Gun (LG) - Rifles under 17 pounds
Heavy Gun (HG) - Rifles up to 22 pounds
If the column represents a score, that number is how many points a shooter earned on the target.
The center of the target is 10 points, and the further away your shot is from the bullseye, the point value is less.
In the light gun category a competitor will shoot a series of 5 shots, 3 times. So if you see a score of 50 that means that the shooter shot all 5 shots from 600 yards in the 10 point circle.
In the Heavy Gun category a competitor will shoot a series of 10 shots - 3 times. So the maximum score a shooter can get for the 10 shot group is 100 points.
When a category states that the score is a shooters "group score", that score represents how tight the 5-10 shots were clustered together, that cluster is measured in inches.
When you see the letter "X" next to a score, that means that the shooter shot the bullseye that many times.
As an example, In the first category below (Light Gun Group), 1 target, Bob's group score is 1.430" because he was able to shoot 5 shots in that group size. The second shooter "Craig", has a group measurement of 1.628, which is a slightly larger group than Bob, but is still a great score. As you can see, sometimes the margin of difference between competitors scores can be pretty close.
We hope this information helps the reader under the scoring below from our most recent match.
