Here are the results for yesterday's 600 yard benchrest match at the Howard Prince Memorial Gun Range near Pioneer LA. We had a sunny buy windy day with a good turnout of shooters.

The first group of six shooters were in the Factory class....the following #1-27 were Custom class.

Come join us on the third Saturday of every month, all year long.

Kind of like this. First you seem to have had a good attendance with lots of shooters. No clue what rules you run by as I see you are posting scores only. IBS is big on group sizes. I like scores as it is a focus on actually hitting the center of the target as opposed to just hitting paper somewhere.

Shooting pictures are always appreciated. It's nice to see what the better shooters look like and the rest of us might even see a picture of our losing mugs to spur us on. My opinions are not always shared by others so decide if it's faint praise.

Mal, we shoot a club match the 3rd Saturday of each month. We shoot the IBS target for score only. We have considered shooting sanctioned matches, but have not "got around" to doing so. Henry Childs normally runs the 600 yard matches and George Walker, the 300 yard matches (1st Sat of each month). Over the last 6 or 7 years, the shooting (along with the equipment) has really improved. The picture below shows Henry Childs (our resident ballistic expert) shooting his 6mm/.270 (shortened) wildcat.Henry at Goodwill 002.JPG

Mal: thanks for your post...I'm going to try to make a more regular posting of our Prince 300 and 600 yard bench rest matches.

My friend and colleague James Mock, one of our most distinguished and accomplished shooters, was good enough to chime in with some information on our matches. For those of you who haven't met him, here's a photo I took of him at the bench last Fall.

We shoot total of 20 rounds for score, and use steel gongs for sighting in. We have 20 concrete benches, and almost always have a second relay.

Between strings the scorers and shooters go down to the 600 yard line to either celebrate or weep and gnash their teeth over their targets. Some of us drive down ourselves, but there are always a couple of pickups available for the usual suspects.

The winners of the match this past Saturday were Len McCollum (left) and Johnny Costello (right)

Even a blind hog picks up an acorn now and then, and I occasionally take a placque home.....that' me on the left and Mark Kurtz on the right in the last pic.

Reads like you have a very large line of benches. You sure could put on a sanctioned shoot. Only thing there is the rules and regiment may be a bit daunting to some of the fun competitors. Of course, others may come in and thrive on that.

Thanks for the information and pictures.

That has been pretty thoroughly investigated and discussed. We believe that it would result in driving away a number of our faithful shooters, and that we should leave "well enough" alone.

We have 20 benches, and have had as many as 37 shooters at a match.
