Master Class, McMillan, or anything else?

1st let me say I do not shoot in competitions, or P-dogs at 1000 yards, or other things. I just shoot off of a bench with sandbags now, but just bought a Caldwell BR rest to start learning to shoot. I'm just a deer hunter that has a little extra money right now, and I like to shoot nice guns,at least nice guns better than the guy next to me who ever that happens to be on that day).

I am building a new rifle, my first custom gun all on my own. I want to make it cool looking, as well as being as accurate as I can, within reason). My reason... $4k total.

Here is where I am at. I bought the Remington 700 action, and selected my caliber,.260) and sent it to Krieger to have the barrel made and fluted, action trued, barrel fitted. So far we are at $1450. Since it takes 5 months to have the work done from Krieger, I have now started looking at my scope and stock.

I bought a used McMillan A-4 on eBay as I already have 2 other guns with McMillan stocks, so I thought that is what I wanted, but I am having 2nd thoughts. I am new here to these forums, but noticed a sponsor you have called Master Class Stocks. I went to their web site, and like their stuff, but wondered if I'm getting out of my price range as I still have to get trigger, scope, mounts and rings, that’s another $1500) and I still have not bought brass, bullets, powder, dies.... and we all know that’s going to run me another $500 or so.

Does anyone own a Master Class Stock? I like the fact that I can have the stock made and fitted by the same people. I have attached the style of stock I was thinking about getting. I welcome all feedback on this project as these are very important decisions I have to make for a $4k toy to play with.

Masterclass fiberglass stocks are made by http://www.robertsoncomposites.com/htmlfiles800/RobertsonComposites800.html
No one does better work than Alex Sitman. And Robertson makes great stocks.
I have both Robertson and Mcmillan and for a prone rifle its Robertson.

Robertson stocks are awesome.

You'll wait a long time on a Masterclass stock. But if you like the laminated look, there are none better.

They will both run you about $800 or so.

You can take a look over on bruno's and see if any of those stocks tickle your fancy.

I have several F-Class rifles with Masterclass stocks. I can tell you without hesitation that Alex Sitman,Masterclass) will do an incredible job on your gun. If you want the best, he is it. Contact him, give him a deposit, and get in line as he is a busy guy. His bedding is absolutely perfect and clean. You will not regret it.

Steve and Shirley McGee also make a very nice stock in the pattern you have selected. I have one of their laminated stocks and it is not only good looking, fits well, and was less expensive that Masterclass.

Right now they have quite a waiting list but it was worth the wait.

Have you checked out Manners Stocks? www.mannersstocks.com Excellent stocks at a good price and not a long wait like Mcmillan or others. Usually about 6-8 weeks.
