My brother bought a used Mark V from a pawn shop in .257 Weatherby Mag and wanted me to work up a load for it. I set the dies up and made a dummy round and found the bolt would not close. I then tried some ammo he had bought and shot. Even the commercial ammo was really difficult to close the bolt on. I happen to have a full set of magnum headspace gauges and found the bolt would not close on the go gauge. This rifle appears to have been shot some so I don't understand why the problem was not noticed before. My brother even shot it. I ask him about the stiff bolt closing and he said he didn't notice it. I am scratching my head here. The chamber and lugs are clean. The ejector is not stuck and appears to move freely. Any ideas about what could cause this other than a headspace issue?
