Mark 4 Leupold discontinued?

Does anybody know why the Mark 4 2.5 - 8 x 36mm was discontinued/suspended?
I was thinking about getting one for my shorty 308 bolt rifle.

Leupold announced about a year ago that the entire Mk4 line would only be sold to LE and Mil. Can't remember the effective date but looks like it's come and gone

As previously mentioned, they cut back their Mark 4 line to Mil/LE sales. They also got rid of a number of items from the Mark 4 line. Even though it is still "available", there is a lot less to choose from. They reduced and limited the Mark 4 line to encourage (force) customers to buy their Mark 6 and 8 products. I think they are crazy because the prices on the Mark 6/8 line are so much higher that a prospective customer is going to look elsewhere for a scope that is quality made but still affordable. That said, there are still plenty of Mark 4 scopes for sale on that most loathed auction site (eBay).

Nightforce, as expensive as they may be, at least listened to the customer and opened up a run of their 2.5-10x24s so Mk12 builders had an option other than paying over retail for used. IMO, Leupold lost their way after the old man passed on. Now the lawyers run the company and it shows in their lineup. If they think the mk5 line up is going to bring them back, I would disagree.

They keep it up, they'll be following Remington's lead.

Well said. Leupold seems to have lost touch with their customer base and where the scope market is headed. I personally like their scopes and hope they get it together, and soon.

I have an old vx3 3.5-10x40 M3 and it's one of my favorite scopes. A true meat eater. I won't be using it for highpower (anymore) but for its intended use it was (is) an exceptional scope. It morphed into the Mk4 line some time ago.

I have an old VX3 8.5-25x50 M1 and it's been excellent, also morphed into a mk4 I think. Leupold used to be affordable, light weight quality for the average shooter who could save for a little while. My last 6.5-20x50 LRT, not thrilled. At least not out of the box. Leupold reminds me a lot of Remington. Albeit with better a customer service department.

That was announced a couple of years ago. They have discontinued the Mark 4 series, but have contractual obligations with Mil/LE to continue to supply them. The newer line of the Mark series is a better scope. Civilians get the newer series, while Mil/LE get the older discounted Mark 4.

Typical, never understood why all the dealers stocked 6.5 x 20 when the 8.25 x 25 was so much superior to the 6.5 x 20.model.
