I AM LOOKING FOR INFO ON HOW TO OPEN UP THIS STANDARD 30-06 ACTION TO ACCEPT BELTED MAGNUM CASES HAS ANYBODY DONE THIS I KNOW IT CAN BE DONE BUT I DONT KNOW HOW ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.THE ACTION IS A MARK 10 COMMERCIAL MAUSER.

220, it's not a hard job, but it is a hard one to get right. The bolt has to be stripped, of course. However you set up, carefully cut the bolt face to .540" concentric with the firing pin hole. The bottom inside ends of the horseshoe-shaped lip on the bolt face already have lead,taper) cut on them, but you might have to lightly file or stone them for smooth cartridge feed up the face of the bolt. Then the extractor lip has to be worked,shortened and retapered) to lightly grip the extraction groove of the cartridge, and the frame rails have to be re-shaped to feed the fatter cartridge. This is a very tricky operation for me.

I left out a lot of details, but this is a rough outline of the job. It is slow and tedious, and expensive if you get a 'smith who knows these actions to do it for you. It is a great project though for someone who has the equipment and skill to do it themselves.

I really like the commonly available commercial Mauser actions and would use them for anything except benchrest guns or really big cartridges, for example, the Wby .378 based cartridges.
